From ole at jlab.org Fri Dec 12 21:17:46 2025 From: ole at jlab.org (Ole Hansen) Date: Fri, 12 Dec 2025 21:17:46 -0500 Subject: [Halla_running] Hall A counting house computer upgrades - tomorrow, Saturday, Dec 13. Message-ID: Hello everyone, sorry to spring this on you on short notice, but it's probably not a big deal re ongoing work: We are planning to upgrade the hardware of the counting house machines aonl2-aonl4 tomorrow afternoon, Saturday, Dec 13. The machines will be down for at least a few hours, possibly into Sunday. The work disk (/aonlN/work1) of each host has been backed up and will be restored after the upgrade. There should be no other user data on these hosts.?Very brief network interruptions are possible, but unlikely. We'll let you know when things are stable again. aonl1 and the DAQ and slow controls machines will stay up unless something unforeseen happens. The new machines will be WAY faster than the ancient ones they replace, so there's something to look forward to. We'll also get a new file server with O(200 TB) disk space. Details will be shared once it is configured. Cheers, Ole -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... We now have four main analysis machines, aonl1-4, each with 128 threads and 512 GB of RAM. aonl2-4 are ca. 25% faster than aonl1. There's also a fifth, slower machine, aonl5, intended for auxiliary jobs. Additionally, we have a new file server, mollerfs, whose disk, over 215 TB, is visible under/mollerfs/work1. This is in addition to the old /chafs[12]/work1 disks. mollerfs is meant for MOLLER online analysis (prompt replay, etc.) Feel free to start using these machines, and please let me know if you notice anything amiss.
