We made huge progresses over the pass weekend and we are now smoothly taking production data with gas targets at the x>1 SRC kinematics.

On last Friday, we finished the optics data taking at 5th pass energy. During the day we switched to 2nd pass and received the beam at the beginning of swing shift. We quickly went through the commissioning (ion chamber, raster-size, beam position) and stuck at the bull's eye scan due to the bad signals from the BPMA/B Y direction which remains an issue up till now. We remained at Phass-I through the owl shift and took production data only with the solid targets (dummy, optics foils and carbon).

During Saturday we had experts from MCC and our side to further investigate the BPM-Y signal issue. We eventually were convinced that the rasters were working and the beam positions were known and the bad signal could be some high frequency noise either from the BPM modules and/or anywhere between the module and our front-end electronics. We decided to move into Phase-III and had the gas-targets unlocked. We didn't received much beam during the swing and owl shifts but we took production data at the x=1 kinematics on gas targets whenever we had beam.

Moving into Sunday, we didn't receive beam for the owl shift and the first half of the day shifts, and received very unstable beam for the second half. In the swing shift we had better beam quality but found the beam-x position was drifting. Called MCC and complaint and became stable afterwards (still tried to figure out what they did so we can prevent such issue comes back again). Monday-owl shift was quiet and smooth. We finished the x~1 setting and moved into the x>1 setting.

The plan today is to continue taking data and finish the x>1 run. Then we will go back to x=1 setting and perform the boiling study and BCM calibration. It won't take too long if the beam is good. Then we can start the x>2 setting which will continue through the rest of the experiment.

The shift schedule looks much better now! I highly appreciated our collaborators quickly responded to our request for shift-workers and covered lots of shifts. We will need your continuously support, for example, we need SL for most of the following owl-shifts. Now the experiment is running smoothly w/ very minimum changes so you will have easy and quiet shifts. Thanks!
