Dear Hall C Users:

As the construction of the Super High Momentum Spectrometer and its
detectors progresses, it is becoming time to start planning for the
commissioning of this new device (and the recommissioning of the
existing HMS). Furthermore, it is likely that discussions of
commissioning plans will be part of the PAC meeting in the summer of
2012. Therefore, the organizers of the annual Hall C summer physics
workshop (August 19-20, 2011), will convene a session devoted to
discussing SHMS commissioning plans. This session will include an
update on the status of SHMS construction and discussions about
commissioning plans. Part of the planning for commissioning will
include choosing which experiments make sense to run first or early in
the 12 GeV era.

I would like to invite a representative of each experiment that wishes
to be considered as a commissioning or early experiment to make a short
(5-10 minutes) presentation at this meeting. While the scheduling of
experiments is ultimately a lab responsibility, it is hoped that these
presentations and discussions will ultimately lead to a consensus among
Hall C users of the choice and ordering of the initial experiments.
Presenters should explain the the suitability and readiness of their
experiments to run early and highlight the advantages to the Hall C 12
GeV program of doing so.

If you wish to make a presentation during this session please contact
me by June 30.

Steve Wood, Hall C
