Good morning,
Please plan on attending the next interview seminar:
Today, May 15th : Vardan Khachatryan @11:00 in CEBAF Auditorium
Parton Structure of Nucleon Constituents
Abstract:
One of the first results in diffraction physics from the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) experiment at LHC is presented. This includes the selection and analysis of hard diffractive events with the gamma/Z0 boson decaying into di-muon pairs. The data sample was collected in proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV with the CMS detector. The data are compared to models used to describe high-energy diffractive interactions. The analysis discovered significant (by a factor of 10) overestimation of the high-x component of Pomeron by H1 based models. This talk also includes detector performance studies, in particular the discovery of a 6% impact of a high magnetic field on CMS Hadron Calorimeter scintillator light output and several other aspects on CMS and Totem combined trigger preparation, data taking, analysis techniques and results.
The physics, status and development of the A Prime EXperiment at Jefferson Lab (APEX) are also discussed in this talk. Presented is the potential for discovering a mediator of Dark Forces based on the investigation of a new (A') boson produced by an electron beam and high-Z fixed target interactions. The full chain of Monte-Carlo studies is performed, and the detector preparation is in progress and is expected to be completed by this October. The connection between diffraction physics and the TDIS experiment in Hall A is discussed.
