Dear colleagues -
Please find attached a draft proposal for PAC52, "Measurement of the
Nuclear Dependence of R in Semi-Inclusive Deep Inelastic Scattering."
This proposal is suggested as a 4.5 day addition to the approved Hall C
R-SIDIS experiment (E12-06-104), which will measure R=sigma_L/sigma_T in
semi-inclusive DIS for H and D targets as a function of Bjorken x, z,
and p_T. This proposal will make measurements at a subset of the
R_SIDIS kinematics using carbon and copper targets to compare the value
of R in nuclei to that from the nucleon. The nuclear dependence of R in
SIDIS is relevant to measurements of hadron attenuation and a non-zero
difference would imply previously unaccounted for nuclear effects.
Please let us know if you have any comments or would like to be added to
the proposal by next Monday evening (April 29).
Best regards,
Dave Gaskell, Peter Bosted, Will Brooks, Rolf Ent, Ed Kinney, and Hamlet
Mkrtchyan
