Dear Colleagues,

On Tuesday, Sept. 9, from 9-11 a.m., a labwide emergency response exercise (full participation for those working on-site) will take place at Jefferson Lab. Several areas of the lab will be affected directly and clearly marked, and all on-site personnel will be prompted to take actions via email, text and cellphone-call alerts from the RAVE communications system. If you have a hybrid schedule or work off-site and plan to be at the lab on the day of the exercise, it is important that you follow the RAVE alert actions.

Actions may include sheltering in place. Sheltering in place means remaining indoors and ensuring all exterior windows and doors are closed. Follow all prompts issued via RAVE and plan ahead during this time, as security guards will not allow access to buildings and locations, including the accelerator site, while the exercise is underway. Review the following details in advance of the exercise:

  *   Who: Everyone on-site
  *   What: A simulation of an emergency event requiring protective actions
  *   Where: ES&H and Test Lab parking lots (next to Hadron Drive) with impacts across the lab
  *   When: Tuesday, Sept. 9, from 9-11 a.m.

To ensure that you receive RAVE alerts via a U.S.-based cellphone, please register your cellphone number via JList.

International cellphone numbers are not compatible with the RAVE system; if you have an international cellphone number, please access your email during the exercise to receive RAVE alerts.

Conducted in partnership with the Newport News Police Department (NNPD) and Newport News Fire Department (NNFD), the exercise aims to strengthen lab safety and improve coordination and response in the event of an actual emergency. Safety officers, observers and evaluators from multiple organizations will be on-site and wearing high-visibility vests.

The ES&H Division is conducting walkthroughs and announcing the exercise during labwide meetings, and management is communicating expectations to their teams.
