Work in the hall has been completed and we are schedule to be placed in beam permit starting with swing shift today. Work was conducted on the HMS Q2 power supply (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3546255, https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3546353) which resulted in the power supply being left in an undesirable yet functional state. While Simona was ramping up the HMS magnets the HMS dipole exhibited some communication errors which were promptly resolved by Jack and Ethan (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3546376). While setting the current on the HMS dipole a “Penning Vac Gauge” interlock was thrown (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3546411) rendering the HMS inoperable for the remainder of the evening. Walter was contacted and two technicians are tentatively scheduled to address the issue tomorrow if an access is obtainable.
It is expected that dayshift Saturday, Sunday, and Monday will be comprised of little too no beam since MCC will utilize this time for facilities and RF groups to address issues discovered during operation of the machine during the previous swing and owl shifts. Therefore, further work will be conducted on HMS Q2 and the HMS dipole during these down times.
MCC plans to continue with the restoration of the machine starting swing shift today which will be comprised of high power tests. They will attempt to deliver 85 uA to Hall-C with the target in the “home” position. As the machine is ramped up to full power it is hypothesized that weak links will manifest and will be immediately addressed which will result in potentially long and sporadic downtimes. However, if the machine is stable at lower currents and the work required to address the issues are scheduled during the day, then lower current “physics” beam will be made available which we will of course take advantage of.
All TO shifts are still required to be staffed as scheduled. Shift leader shifts are now on standby until swing Saturday. A further update of the progress and the status of the shift leader shifts will be provided after tomorrows 9 am MCC meeting.
