During swing shift last night at ~10 pm MCC offered 50 uA of “physics” beam to be delivered to hall and naturally we obliged. We viewed both the unrastered (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3546557) and rastered (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3546562) beam on the YAG. The beam was then centered on the target via the carbon hole target (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3546603) and production data commenced with the SHMS configured to -1.7 GeV at 33 degrees.
During owl shift beam was some times ratty at 50 uA (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3546689) and sometimes quite stable at +60 uA. At ~10 am this morning we completed the aforementioned kinematic point with the SHMS and proceeded to change polarity for positron running (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3546945) while moving the SHMS to 39 degrees (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/3546940) with a momentum setting of +1.8 GeV. Currently we are in controlled access so that Jack Segal can conduct work, which was coordinated with Steve Lassiter, on the HMS dipole power supply.
Moving forward, MCC will continue to conduct the high power test and identify any problems with the machine that will hinder future operations. No major issues were identified last night during swing and owl which would have required MCC to take the machine down for an extended period of time today. Therefore, we will continue to run opportunistically for day, swing, and owl while taking full advantage of all the electrons we can muster from the machine. After tomorrows RC meeting we will have a better idea of any planned accelerator downs that may be planned during the day.
All shifts are required to be fully staffed unless otherwise notified.
Special Requests:
Brad Sawatzky: DAQ buffer mode tests
Work completed in the hall during accelerator accesses:
Jack Segal: HMS Q2 power supply
Hall-C Techs: HMS dipole penning vacuum gauge
