The NPS team have performed an outstanding job to complete the refurbishment this weekend!
The team assembled on very short notice on Saturday and started removing the columns as detailed in Julie's plan (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4267802). The team worked extremely efficiently together moving through the plan and - since they are experts in these tasks - the work went much quicker than anticipated. Yesterday during swing they completed the planned work on all four columns (26-29), including checking the optical coupling (ahead of schedule).
Huge thanks goes to the students - and the entire NPS team - for this achievement! This marks a great milestone for the NPS group - now they have completed replacing all bases in the calorimeter. Special thanks to Larry for helping us at such short notice on the weekend and to Julie for all the help. David Hamlette and RadCon also helped us too on short notice for survey - thank you. Charles has the HMS magnets up and running now with an NMR lock, thanks for this and also thanks again to Ellen and Dave for fixing Q2.
An NPS cosmics run was taken overnight (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4268128) - some channels need debugging. NPS students are in the Hall working on that. When they come out they will check with LED runs, perform any other debugs, then move to NPS cosmics.
We plan to close the Hall before the end of day shift today. Note - we will move the NPS calo to 3m (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4268137).
This weekend's refurbishment achievement is also very good news because now we can cancel the previously planned 4 days down due to commence this coming Wednesday. Moving forward with next week's the plan from the machine side, the schedule may change due to the downtime this weekend (eg beam studies day may change), we should know more tomorrow.
>From ops side, this morning the vacuum still seems to be holding and they will soon open the remaining valves. If all goes well, physics beam could return in swing.
All shifts are moving ahead as normal and all shifters should report to the CH.
This is a reminder to shifters - please remember to check your badge for access in advance to arriving for shift.
We will meet today at 11am for the RC meeting:
