RC summary (Day 05/11/24 - Day 05/12/24)
A bit of disruption since yesterday, but mostly standard data taking.
We were planning on staying at KinC_x36_1 all day yesterday, which we did until SWING shift. At just after 1900h, Hall B declared that they were out for the night, and requested that we move our BCM calibration run forward. With MCC's approval, Christine came in at around 2200h and went through the procedure with MCC (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4303092, https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4303100). During the BCM run, the highest current delivered was 25uA, rather than the 40uA that we initially looked for. This run was finished just before 0000h, and we returned to the settings for x36_1 until the hand over to DAY shift this morning.
The main priority for DAY shift today is a target fan speed study at 25psi (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4302890), for which Dave Meekins went down into the hall at 0815h. Unfortunately, when rotating the (S)HMS arms in preparation for data taking, the HMS drive controller tripped and the rotation was stopped (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4303344). Steve Lassiter came in to reset the breaker, and the rotation was finally completed at 0930h (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4303357). Normal beam issues prevented us from starting the fan speed study until 1003h, but it is still struggling. We asked for "as high current as possible" from MCC (ideally expecting 30uA), but there have been beam loss-related issues when delivering even 25uA. Given what MCC are seeing, the decision has been made to stay at 20uA to prevent beam trips (https://logbooks.jlab.org/entry/4303390). We expect this fan speed test to finish in the early afternoon (dependent on beam conditions), at which !
point Dave will come back in to return the pressure to 40psi.
Tomorrow, we shall be going to 4-pass to catch up on the data that we lost on Wednesday evening; beam will be stopped at 0700h to facilitate the necessary hardware change on the 4-pass RF separator line, and beam is expected to be back around SWING shift tomorrow.
The run plan for after the fan studies HAS NOT YET BEEN DECIDED. We shall hold an RC meeting at 11am in the Counting House conference room to discuss the plan for this evening and tonight.
