Dear collaborators,

Today we completed the insertion of the BCAL into the solenoid. Tim
coordinated the effort as Tom was on vacation this week. But it took
essentially all the Hall D technical staff working together to make this
happen safely. We started yesterday and got about 3/4 of the way into
the magnet. Today we started out by measuring the tension pulling the
BCAL, which was about 12,000 lbs once it got moving. The initial tug to
get it started after sitting overnight was about 17,000 lbs. By noon the
calorimeter was within 1" of its final location. There was a slight
interference at the end of the pull, which required an adjustment to the
pulling fixture. The modification was completed after lunch and the
detector was pulled into its resting position, about 1 mm from the mark
on the magnet. The gap between the flat side of the modules and the iron
is about 7/8" +/- 1/8", measured by ruler. The BCAL will be surveyed on
Monday and accurate as-built positions will be determined.

Cheers, Elton.
