[Halld-cal] BCAL Geometry in sim-recon

Hi All,

Elton and I were looking over George’s table in the minutes of yesterday’s Calorimetry meeting
regarding the discrepancy in the BCAL layer radii for various sources of the information.
In particular, the DBCALGeometry and HDDS values. The HDDS values were entered
in 2012 based on CAD drawings while the DBCALGeometry numbers were entered
in 2010 based on an unknown source. I believe the HDDS numbers are more accurate
and the DBCALGeometry numbers should be updated to match those. I discussed this
with Elton and we agreed that what really needs to be done is to have DBCALGeometry
get these numbers from HDDS so that there is a single source.

Specifically what needs to be done is the following:

Formulate xpath queries to extract the information from HDDS. Some documentation
on this can be found here:

https://halldweb1.jlab.org/wiki/index.php/HOWTO_Access_Geometry_Information_from_JANA/DANA

Examples can also be found in the sim-recon source in HDGEOMETRY/DGeometry (e.g.
the GetFDCRmin method).

One will need to access the BM01, BM02, … volumes to get the desired info.

This would probably be a nice, small project for a student to work on. I’ll be happy to serve
as point of contact for any questions. Let me know if anyone is interested.

Regards,
-David
