Hi Will and Andrei,
It was nice to see Andrei's simulation of the muon decays in the BCAL.
It confirms that the full energy should reflect the expected Michel
spectrum, even if it is slightly broadened by resolution. This leaves us
with the puzzle as to why our reconstructed electrons do not have that
shape.
The energy deposited in the cell where the muon decayed does in fact
have a similar shape to the experimental spectrum, which should contain
all the energy. The simulated cell/total energy is 1.8/3.2 = 0.56. the
fraction of total energy reconstructed is 19 MeV/37 MeV = 0.51. This
leads to the suspicion that we are loosing energy somewhere in the
determination of the electron signal. We need to double-check that we
are not missing any hits in the vicinity of the reconstructed electron.
Will: What are you determining the electron energy? Do you add up all
the hits at a delayed time from the muon, or does the program compute a
shower energy automatically?
Thoughts/comments?
Thanks, Elton.
