Hi all:
The FCAL2 meetings will resume on Wednesday October 2 at 10 am EDT, in hybrid fashion: Hall D Counting house and zoom. The project page is here:
https://halldweb.jlab.org/wiki/index.php/FCAL2_Meetings
Tim/Malte/Mark, if someone can get the videoconferencing system up each week that would be great.
Thanks and cheers, Zisis...

Hi Zisis,
Sure - that time works for me, I can help setting up in the CH. @Tim, Techs, does the time work?

HI Tim:
I can run them (with someone setting up the system in the Hall D counting room), provided that they are at 10am JLab for now, which is 8am Regina. We can rotate them back to 9am JLab after daylight savings, which would still be 8am Regina then.
If this is ok, let’s start next Wed Oct 2. I will manage the Wiki and agenda with help from Sasha, Malte, Mark and you.

Hi All,
Agreed. We have a short period of time before the scheduled beam date of January 3025.
Who will run these meetings?

Hello Malte:
Thank you for feedback and including John (I don’t see him on the cc above so please forward this to him).
I agree on the Wed morning meetings. Even if those are short, they are worthwhile, as I saw when I was on sabbatical at JLab last year.

Hi Zisis,
thanks for your summary! I completely agree - there are a lot of moving parts, Lead glass modules, insert, slow control (Hovanes), ultimately also the DAQ, and of course Techs, Engineers, Fast Electronics. To have any plan, even if we have to adapt it while we’re going, is much better than not having a plan. If there is a plan and it’s not discussed with all involved people, that’s equivalent to not having a plan.
I included also Josh Ballard in the email chain, as he and Tim know best about what’s going on in the hall. Scheduling things like plumbing that has to be done, making the darkroom dark, installing insulation - all while we aim to do testing of detectors and ultimately measuring cosmic - with the two groups, ECAL and FCAL at the same time - is best resolved if we just sit down at a table. I agree that the best course of action is to meet Wednesday morning and look at where everything stands.
Best,
Malte

Hello everyone:
During our CALWG meeting this morning we had a vigorous conversation in connection to FCAL2. As the CALWG co-coordinator stationed >3,000 km from the lab, I can summarize how things look to me:
1. I am not aware of the existence of a written plan that includes completion of hardware, commissioning (voltages, thresholds, cosmics, etc), and initial calibration (Compton, pi0). These things have been (orally) discussed in the past and were touched upon today, but we need a written plan with timelines as we are a short four months away from beam.
2. Hardware needs include (but possibly not limited to) efforts from Tim’s group (plumbing, dark room, etc), Fernando’s (Chris’ tasks), and possibly external vendor acquisitions. Hall D staff, of course, work on many things (voltage scans, LMS tests, DAQ/trigger, cosmics, calibration, etc.) with university people.
3. All groups/people need to come together to develop a solid plan with dependencies and Plan Bs around delays. This requires a priorities list and appropriate personnel allocation.
To this end, I suggest that we reconvene the Wednesday am meetings on the FCAL as the right forum to complete the remaining hall hardware jobs. The CALWG will serve as the forum for commissioning and calibration plans. The necessary tasks are probably known to many but let’s reboot the plan and write it up, now that we have cleared summer holidays and LOTO recertification, among other things beyond our control.
Please let me know your thoughts on this and if we all agree let’s move forward with a plan.
Thanks and cheers, Zisis...
