OK Thanks,

Pablo and I will experiment with the GSV (get system value) command using the TIMESYNCHRONIZE object. We can sync the Chassis time with the windows clock, then send the synchronized time to the supply. Depending on how long it takes for the Danyfisk to process the command it should be fairly close to the SOE time stamps, and also within a second or two of the PXI time.

If we want to get fancy Allen Bradley offers a module for more advanced time synchronization, 1756HP-TIME. I dont think that will be necessary.

This is mainly for Nick, but figured others might be interested too.

Regarding sending the current time from the PXI to the PLC, the EtherNet/IP driver from NI that the PXI uses can only send 8-bit unsigned integers to the PLC.

So while it would be possible to (indirectly) send a string, it's going to be quite awkward; involving converting that to an array on the PXI and back again on the PLC. I also don't know if that will mess up the timing on the array of data we're already sending between the two systems.

If the PLC can sync its time with the NTP server or a Windows computer (which in turn uses the NTP server), maybe that would be the easiest course of action since then both systems would use the same time source?
