Recent Progress in Measurement of the Charged and Neutral Pion Polarizabilities at Jefferson Lab
Electromagnetic polarizability is a fundamental property of hadrons, depending on the binding of their inner components.
The measurement of the polarizability of the lightest hadrons - pions- provides a stringent test of QCD predictions.
The CPP and NPP experiments recently conducted at Jefferson Lab have focused on extracting pion polarizabilities through the precise measurement of the Primakoff photoproduction of pion pairs on heavy nucleus. This represents a new technique for measurement, and it will be the first measurement of the neutral pion polarizability.
The experiments utilized the GlueX experimental setup, with lead target and muon chambers added, which, in conjunction with developed AI separation algorithms, enabled effective background rejection of leptonic pair production. To improve the experimental systematics, the utilized beam intensity was reduced, and a new trigger was added to the DAQ system.
Significant progress has been made in the analysis of the data from these experiments, which is the main subject of this talk.
