[Halld-jlab] Networking at remote FDC fabrication site

Hi,

The word from the computer folks is that if we plan to place JLab
desktop computers at a remote site then that site must have security at
the DOE mandated level for JLab itself. If the site supports its own
security system then a massive amount of testing and paperwork needs to
be generated to prove the site lives up to DOE standards.

Thus the simplest solution, by far, is to let the JLab computer people
set the remote site up under the JLab security umbrella. In other
words, they will set up the network at the remote site to be part of the
overall JLab network, same as if you were in the EEL building.

Connectivity to JLab can be done through commodity networks, e.g. Cox or
Verizon.

They can't do the same for phones yet (maybe in a few months), but I
don't think this will be a problem.

Making this happen will require some advanced planning. Let me know
when we know where the site is and when we plan on moving in.

Thanks,

				Sincerely,
					Elliott
