Present: Eugene Chudakov (chair), Mark Ito, David Lawrence, Lubomir
Pentchev, Yi Qiang, Elton Smith, Sascha Somov, Simon Taylor, Tim
Whitlatch, Elliott Wolin, Beni Zihlmann
Eugene
* BIASOL, emptied: 1.0 M$ direct costs, 1.3 M$ total
+ got some new money, mostly from electronics, some from
software, about 250 k$
+ TDC has been pushed back, does not seem a problem, enough
exist already to test FDC prototype
+ 140 k$ was added to account already, should take us a few
months down the road
* New hires: got OK to hire another physicist
+ plan is to use old interview
+ if other applications come in, they will have to be combined
in the process
+ ad came out last week
* space in F117
+ Fernando needs more than two benches and some storage space
for PC boards for FDC
+ need to identify other needs before solenoid racks move out in
July
+ Lubomir: wire winding will not be needing space
+ Elliott: detector group has stored some stuff in the room
+ Tim will head up space negotiation
* Hall D ready for equipment: Dec. 2010; beneficial occupancy, Dec.
2011
+ pushed back from earlier schedules
+ Hall still a construction site in when ready-for-equipment
* Blue Crab situation
+ Claus signed PR for clean room, 250 k$
+ A/C another 100 k$
+ this was done with Virginia money
+ Tim: we asked for class 10,000 clean room
Mark
* PO for Paul's TOF phototubes has gone out
* MOU from FSU has come back
+ added item for amorphous radiators in addition to diamond
* assisting communication in setting up grid client tools here at the
lab
* attended first EVMS meeting
* prototype of perl script driven particle gun generator
+ idea: use script to control
o particle type
o initial starting point
o momentum
o number of events
+ used to test residuals from new FDC
Beni
* FDC testing with cosmic rays
* middle plane has 97% same as top plane
* middle plane harder to keep at HV
David
* attended presentation at the Governor's School by James Codega
* working with Justin Berry, working on ROOTSpy, Justin climbing the
learning curve
* working with Andrew on event viewer
* Micah, CNU masters thesis student, finishing up, defense at end of
summer
+ made a poster, 2nd place at Users' Group Meeting
+ finishing simulations for thesis
* working on 48 core machine test, gave presentation at software
meeting
+ 80% utility with ALT1
+ Kalman fitter: 20%
+ Vardan, CLAS12 Kalman filter: 30%
+ multiple processes: better scaling
* parallelism workshop
+ orgainizational meeting last Thursday, Ed Brash, Dave Heddle,
Ole Hansen, David, and Simon
+ two-day plan:
o parallelization
o GlueX tutorial
+ Dec. or Jan. at CNU
+ first draft of JSA proposal written, 8 k$
* calibration and condition database
+ DocDB document exists
+ want to include event indexing as well
+ requires changes to API in JANA
+ has delayed JANA 0.6.2 release
* tracking: work on ALT2 fitter, 25 to 30% done
+ optimized for speed, standard parametrization
+ hoping for factor of 2 to 10
* magnetic field map
+ doc on docdb on specification
Elton
* attended Advanced Photon and Science Evolution Conference in Japan
+ meta-materials
+ laser applications
o 3-D pictures of outer orbitals of nitrogen atom
* readiness review at IU this week, starts Thu., leaving Wed.
* working on calculations for quenched conditions on solenoid
+ hard to see how coil could burn up
+ needs to be verified
+ need critical current information from engineers
Yi
* working on HMI for coil test
+ want to have Mark Wissmann test PLC's
* SiPM project
+ Carl did test of 3x3
o increase of dark current same as increase in dark rate
+ 1x1 exposed in Hall A
+ Radcon suggested using source on SiPM
o used to calibrate detector
o one 3x3 and 1x1
+ simulation of Hall A: floor plan given to Pavel
Lubomir
* analyszing data from flash ADC tests of top layer
* looking at variation of gain, resolution at various places on the
chamber
* two problems
+ see a cut-off of high amplitude signals from anodes, related
to CDC problems?
+ signals from top strips are bigger than those from bottom,
variation of up to 40%
Sascha
* implementation of playback mode now works,
+ can write different data to different channels
+ can read out all of memory
* local mini-workshop on trigger on July 8
+ homepage and registration page set up
+ another iteration on agenda with Chris was done
+ Sergey Boyarinov will present Hall B scheme
+ Brad Sawatzky will present Hall C scheme[?]
* trying to finish study of microstrip readout of pair spectrometer
+ rates
+ tagger calibration feasibility
+ some simultaions with background being done
+ draft this week
* received the diamond from element 6 for Richard
+ 4.5 x 4.5 mm, 10 microns thick
* Elton: are tagger calculations done?
+ Sascha: parts are done
+ need to update geant geometry
o new magnet, vacuum chambers
* learning to use Ansys to generate field[?]
Elliott
* Andrew working on event display; demo at online meeting
* Mantis issue tracking in preliminary production
* Networking over in Blue Crab; Rusty standing in the way
+ Printers will be ordered
* Wiring is done
+ Scot Spiegel managed project
+ Slava working on drawings
+ PLC's in F117, Mark W. working there
+ two UNCW students working with Mark Stevens
+ B-field considerations: all the analysis been done to locate
equipment
+ options being explored, 5 Gauss field should be OK
* Safety meeting tomorrow, report due this week
* EPICS to PLC stuff working, Wesley
* HMI stuff needed for wiring test
* Grand Canyon talk
Simon
* 48 core test, trying to understand behavior of Kalman filter
running diagnostics
+ for 1 thread: not a cache miss problem
* magnet re-design, more uniform field
+ helical fit with perfectly uniform field
+ work in progress
Tim
* George has been on vacation; filling in
* Coil 2 support fix turned into machine shop; making G10 spacers
+ over 1,000 strips altogether
* shorts found and fixed in coil 2
+ stainless band grounded to outer housing
+ band shorted to coil, all the way to the copper
+ appear to be a lot of band-to-copper shorts
* contract for moving yokes has been awarded, July 13th, tentatively
* coil 1 is finished, leak checked, getting ready to move
* solenoid replacement
+ plan ready for finalization
+ best thing: continue with testing, start designing a single
coil
* civil
+ all concrete walls up
+ solenoid base plates should be in place soon
+ stainless steel lines, fish through[?]
* tagger magnet out for "sources sought"
+ 6 companies have expressed interest
+ due Thursday
* move in ARC, engineering staff going to 5th and 2nd floors from 4th
* CDC inner skin prototypes have been produced
+ 1/2 mm G10, 7.5" diameter
+ glue ends together
* interviewing
+ FDC construction manager interviews in progress
+ need to decide on number of techs
+ need another general tech
+ engineer interviews in progress as well
Questions
* Eugene to Simon: different field map, if more field in the middle
and less at end would we be better off?
* Eugene to Elliott: what is time scale of test, before we move racks
+ end-to-end test, channels in PLC to sensor signal
+ fake signals will be supplied
+ to test as a system: probably not enough fake signals to
simulate multi-channel events
+ Mark W. looking at how much can be done in the room
