Present: Eugene Chudakov (chair), Mark Ito, David Lawrence, Bert
Manzlak, Lubomir Pentchev, Yi Qiang, Dmitry Romanov, Elton Smith,
Sascha Somov, Simon Taylor, Ivan Tolstukhin, Tim Whitlatch, Elliott
Wolin, Glenn Young, Beni Zihlmann
Eugene
* Tom Carstens checked and the Hall looks OK. No water got in.
* Eugene discussed the status of the latest physicist search for Hall
D.
* There will be a Lehman review at the end of October.
* PAC met last week
+ a lot of proposals
+ next PAC in a year from now
+ if we want to submit something, that would be a good time,
perhaps something on charm
Mark
* big event at beginning of August was cyber event
+ most concerns from Hall D addressed now
+ private web sites: still some questions, we should assess and
provide guidance for collaborators
* general software status
+ need to transition from initial reconstruction code to a more
algorithms to support high-level analysis
+ some of the effort spent on high-level analysis should be
turned to studies of basic reconstruction
+ need to augment effort of sub-system reconstruction experts
Tim
* hurricane preparedness: Tom was the point man
+ Blue Crab: humidity stayed low
+ Hall D looks good
o water barrier had been installed
+ need hurricane checklist
* solenoid and rest of components: down to hall
+ start moving in two weeks
+ install fully on piers in October
* tagger magnet, vacuum chamber
+ current design needs finalizing: 11 m long, one piece or two?
+ pour casting in Sep. get paperwork confirming in Oct.
+ coil winding tooling should be done by Oct.
* pair spectrometer: close to complete definition for gap
modification and vacuum chamber
* tagger building coming along well
+ utilities are being put in, some jockeying in installation
+ temporary shield at upstream end being worked on, needed after
tie-in of accelerator tunnel
* counting house still on schedule
* mock-up
+ all CDC parts in
+ cable sliders being tried
+ FDC parts being made
+ available for viewing at test lab
* BCAL assembly tooling mock-up being made
+ will use real wedges with mock-up
+ plan to do this in ESB building
+ no crane, will use gantry
* platform has been awarded, install in December
+ after re-bid, got a price that is 56 k$ less than previous
lowest price
* hall settlement
+ 1 inch over time, tagger building a bit more perhaps
+ Elton: need point of contact, Sascha: Todd Satagawa???
+ should hear from them before placing height of solenoid
* decided on cladding of the yoke, will give margin for stray
magnetic fields, especially at racks
+ 50 G goal
+ 40 G nominal with this plan
* probably glue BCAL light guides in ESB
+ plan to glue horizontally
Beni
* looking at b1pi process, reconstruction efficiency in gap area
+ only 1,700 out of 10,000 protons reconstructed
+ see peak of pion reconstruction in proton region of phase
space: contamination
+ new version of code crashes
* want to look at gas system
* CDC status: on track
+ need additional spare parts
+ have put in over 400 wires
o measured tension once, found six broken wires
o have not fixed broken wires
o will remeasure after finished gluing tubes
+ now on last layer, 200 tubes
Lubomir
* some water problems from the roof at Blue Crab
* happy that power did not go down
* things were (physically) well covered by technicians, just in case
* working on sixth wire plane, doing tension measurements, will be
ready in a couple of days
* stacking production package
+ gusset ring was item of discussion, but stacking started today
+ flatness measurements not what expected, may have to start
again
* big problem with HV capacitors
+ solder balls as seen in pictures from minutes
+ will replace all caps
Yi
* after coil test, found that multiplexing ADC will not be enough to
monitor coil during experiment
+ bought another ADC
* working on DAQ software for production test of SiPM
Sascha
* working on trigger simulation: start with geant, parametrize
signal, digitize, add noise
* playing with reading out waveform
* simulation of pair spectrometer: review during meeting on Wed. to
make decision on gap size and dimensions of vacuum chamber
* trigger modules due by Dec.
* expect 10 TID's, 6 SD's: the number is limited
David
* wrap up study on BCAL segmentation: get 20 to 30% reduced time
resolution for average and difference if we add one more layer
Simon
* About a month ago, started work on simulating pulse shape from
chambers
+ very expensive in time
+ introduced a flag to turn it off
* Found and fix a bug in dE/dx in CDC
* improvements in track finding in the FDC
* also improvements in CDC
Elliott
* online meeting Wed.
* confusion on what DAQ group is working on, straightened out
* Dave Abbott will give us a list of questions
* in two weeks get talk from Sascha on how to configure trigger
* will get coda3 schedule from Dave
* UPS question: 80k$, Glenn: buy it, store in ESB
* networking, wireless throughout Hall, interim
* Fernando Barbosa wants everything out of F117, do not know where to
store
* if you have requests for computers, send them in
* bringing in Nerses Gevorgyan
* Hovanes looking into IRMES
* Should we split crates for high luminosity? probably not
* issue on control rack height, Chuck will report
Elton
* monitoring contract with Athens: response submitted, questions
asked, converging on items
* went over schedule for production testing of SiPM's
+ electronics not ready until mid-October
+ SiPM's delivered beginning of September
* RFP for light guides is out, want that done by end of fiscal year
* BCAL additional inner layer,
+ waiting for Fernando to look at lay-out
+ electronics cost may go up by 300 k$
* beam test request for FCAL coming along
+ Eugene will approach Volker Burkert after reviewing document
Bert
* heads up: someone will ask for lessons learned from solenoid event
of a couple of weeks ago
* all groups did prepare well for storm
+ could now fine-tune procedures
+ Tom asked Bert to look at check-list
* David: earthquake question: how about a PA system?
+ Bert: there will be a procedure for earthquakes
Dmitry
* ran JANA with the CCDB
+ constants converted from file-based system
+ writing documentation for user to install plug-in
+ next: distribute
* online needs for database
+ ORM (ODB) used to connect to database from C++
+ simple schema
+ started to use it, works
Ivan
* working on analysis of data from two pre-amps for BCAL SiPM's
+ finished, summarizing
* SiPM with 25 micron: want to do some measurements
* Sascha: collecting equipment needed for the tests.
