Private:Hall D Staff Meeting, April 9, 2012

Present: Eugene Chudakov (chair), Kwame' Coles, Hovanes Egiyan, Mark
Ito, Vanik Kakoyan, David Lawrence, Lubomir Pentchev, Simon Taylor, Tim
Whitlatch, Elliott Wolin, Glenn Young, Beni Zihlmann

Installation, Tim

      * installation schedule made with an eye toward the accelerator
        schedule
+ Tom Carstens has a detailed schedule
+ Eugene with post schedule on Hall D page
      * pair spectrometer magnet pole pieces in, there was a fit problem,
        fixed
      * tagger magnet: by this week company should be winding coils
      * downstream platform awarded for about half of expected price
      * cryogenic platform: facilities is reviewing design
      * tagger vacuum chamber: materials ordered
      * beamline components: finalization underway with Sascha
+ Tom has a list of things to order
+ some pair converter details yet to be decided
      * tooling for BCAL: half way welded up, should be done by end of
        month
      * stands for tagger magnet: PR issued
      * shims installed in magnet, between yokes
      * baffle supports: design done, tooling done
      * design for BCAL rails near final
      * electrical work in counting house: UPS to be installed today or
        tomorrow
      * there is backup plan to put plugs into counter-sunk bolt holes in
pair spectrometer magnet if they affect the field
      * breakthrough from accelerator tunnel to Hall D beamline will be
        done during 16-month shutdown
      * sag in photon beamline is still there will be forever; should not
        be a problem
      * tagger power supply becomes available in May
+ Giles talking to Bill Merz about spare parts, etc.
+ 480 V available in service building to plug it in
      * Radiated noise concern from Fernando:
+ as for UPS requirements in Hall, need to create a list
           + some class A devices, e. g., network switches
      * Giles can sign control circuit diagrams, he will let us know if he
is not comfortable with any such assignments

Flash 125, Cody

      * a prototype flash 125 came in last week
+ boards for main and mezzanine
+ some parts need to be replaced, resistors
+ should be assembled in next couple of days
+ will be programmed and tested
+ Beni would like to get one
+ want to test pulser out
+ test vectors need to be written
      * working with Procurement on main order

FDC Construction, Lubomir

      * assembled first refurbished cell on Thu., started flushing with gas
      * oxygen level drops over days, one cell per week, leveled out at 900
        PPM
      * looks like May to finish the package, unless test rate increased
      * the testing chamber, got to 300 PPM, 3 O-rings
      * expect higher level with 5 O-rings
      * getting leakage, garden variety, tighten, dropped to 570 PPM
      * harder O-rings susceptible to leakage compared to old ones
      * leakage similar to what was seen in prototype

Software Review Preparations, David

      * Friday meetings continue
      * chair for review committee identified, not announced
      * organizers are working on the schedule
      * charge has not been circulated
      * meeting tomorrow on preparations for review
+ slides prepared on areas of concern
      * research management document: not clear if that is relevant
      * talk outlines are due in two weeks
      * first dry run May 14 or 15
      * review will be June 7 and 8
      * activity list coming along, some feedback coming in

BCAL Test, Eugene

      * mini-BCAL has been connected, in the beam, signals were captured
      * heat issue
+ from electronics to SiPM plate
+ heats up by 5 degrees C when electronics turned on
+ perhaps insulation between plates not enough
+ heat path not yet understood
      * range of signals with electrons measured
+ first impression: signals too big
+ with 1 GeV electrons, some channels go to 1/2 of full range
      * some electronics issues, oscillations
