Private:Hall D Staff Meeting, January 30, 2012
Announcements
Eugene made some announcements.
* nothing new on the budget: it has been cut, management scrambling
to make a plan, including reshuffling things from FY12 to FY13 and
beyond
* we submit an ETC, as a yearly exercise
+ some expansion does not surprise anyone, but this time we
added the extra layer to BCAL
* movement of funds from FY to FY another change request, non-ETC
exercise
Electronics
Fernando, Cody, and Sascha gave the report.
* JLab folks visited the FADC-250 fab company, looked good
* TDC being fab'ed now, 1st prototype of v2
* pre-amp: GlueX Note coming out outlining activity on the first 800
channels, testing results
* BCAL read-out is out for fabrication, coming within next week or
so, then assembly
* Sipm arrays: board for testing single arrays, will be distributed
around the collaboration
* SiPM pair spectrometer boards are out today
* laser safety, going in circles
* schedule for FADC-125:
+ Gerard sent a design for the Spartan part for Fernando and
Cody to review
+ parts for prototype in hand
+ will order 3 prototypes boards
+ place PR this week
+ receive them in a week or so
+ send out for assembly
+ 3 or 4 weeks to get boards in hand to test
+ then go out for big contract, April or May
* TDC PR's are out, contract awarded, one issue needed review, 1st
prototype of v2. full contract procurement by end of summer
* Trigger boards:
+ signal distribution, TI, TD have not been awarded yet
+ SSP's and CTP's will be ordered this year
* note 747 will be updated to reflect recent changes
+ change implementation for the start counter
Software Review
David gave the report.
* Eugene's introduced the subject:
+ not covered by 12 GeV Project
+ might be right moment to assess it
+ not all pieces covered by someone who has promised to deliver
* June 7 and 8, end of user workshop
* no charge yet
* we should be ready for data, do not let software delay publication
* brainstorming session last week for Physics Division
+ look for areas of cooperation between halls
+ areas listed, Rolf asked for meetings on topics
+ Halls B and D: CLARA and JANA, tracking, data format, slow
controls, online monitoring
+ amplitude analysis: Mike Pennington will convene a meeting
* Eugene on Geant4: we have a working geant3 won't benefit from
conversion at this time
* [15]wiki page up to gather information
+ updated offline computing schedule
* Mark is gathering information on manpower
* Eugene: need a plan for calibration and alignment of detectors
+ plan for FCAL: use pi0's
+ BCAL software in flux, using eta's was considered
+ discussion held last Wednesday on plans for tracking chambers
* Elliott: there will be a meeting about sharing online software,
control software, among Halls
ETC
Eugene gave the report.
* nearly there
* from engineering perspective, Tim Whitlatch submitted long list,
added installation costs
* looks like big shift away from DAQ and Online, about 0.5 M$, behind
by factor of 2 in rate of progress, although formulation of tasks
can be questioned
* when detectors are ready, then naturally effort will migrate to
online tasks
* current guidance from management is to keep the current schedule,
associated dates of milestones
+ some beam April '14
+ beam October '14
Safety
Bert gave the report.
* Bert Manzlak introduced himself
+ he is the Physics Division safety liaison
+ he is not the Division Safety Officer, now Javier Gomez is
acting in that capacity
+ find Bert in room C102 of CEBAF Center
+ contact him early for help and guidance with developing
necessary safety procedures and associated documentation, he
can streamline the effort
* the laser thing is in progress
+ Javier has not signed the document yet
+ all work control documents have to have a JLab person
responsible
* Issue in EEL 126 with ethylene flouride
+ involved storage, gas hood, inspection, and Elton Smith
+ resolved now
* since October (start of FY12) 6 recordable injuries at the Lab
+ everyone involved at Lab less than 2 years
+ if injured: report to supervisor and medical services
o a phone call may be all that is required
