Private:Hall D Staff Meeting, March 26, 2012
Present: Hovanes Egiyan, Nerses Gevorgyan, Charles Hightower, Mark Ito,
Vanik Kakoyan, David Lawrence, Bert Manzlak, Lubomir Pentchev, Elton
Smith (chair), Sascha Somov, Simon Taylor, Elliott Wolin
Elton
* equipment inventory ongoing
* must be done by end of week
Bert
* laser in CC F117, additional safety features must be installed
before proceeding with work, interlocked into system
* material handling assessment, share with folks in hall, document
not released yet, will be forwarded to supervisors, will happen 2nd
half of April
* work control document for parasitic test in Hall B, signed off last
week, ready to go
* tornado drill last Tuesday, PA sent out recap, asked for
participation in survey
* there will be a test of fire alarm at Blue Crab. Can it be heard
inside of clean room?
Lubomir
* last experiment with oxygen with testing chamber was successful
+ O-ring groove not smooth, coated the groove with Hysol
+ repeat measurement, oxygen down from 1400 ppm to less than 300
ppm
+ input gas is 200 ppm to begin with
+ did not depend on chamber pressure -> diffusion
* start preparations to retro-fit already assembled chambers
+ O-rings on frames to be replaced, those on spacer rings will
not be
+ can do one cell per week, perhaps two
David
* on track for Open House
+ need more shifts filled
* software review
+ making weekly progress
+ group: David, Eugene, Curtis, Matt, Mark
+ Rolf has issued a timeline
o management plan
o tight spots and weaknesses
+ What do we need to prepare?
o Need names assigned to areas of responsibility
o Plan for off-site computing
o Milestone lists, data challenges
o List of tight spots and weaknesses
# details of micro dst format
# how to transfer data on and off site
# tracking efficiency
# photons reconstruction and split-offs
# calibration
# legacy software
# manpower
# documentation
Hovanes
* counting house
+ a lot of furniture from Test Lab
+ UPS: no observable progress
* did studies for alarm system within CSS
+ toy alarm configuration created and played with
+ some features not found that were expected
* write documents for the studies
+ high and low voltage, Nerses and Vanik
+ framework for slow controls
* meeting with Hall B
+ slow controls kick-off meeting
+ they want to cooperate with Hall D
+ they will be working on their EPICS drivers
+ strategy and tactics
+ Ken Livingston will be the coordinator for Hall B
* safety issues
+ EEL 126, concerns with HV power supply, interlock jumper in
connector
+ concern with motor with rubber: pinching hazard
Nerses
* trying to finish HV program
* working on documentation, what has been done, what needs to be done
* leaving in a week
* a lot of things to be done
+ integrate CAEN with framework
+ FCAL bases
+ low voltage supplies
+ archiver
+ alarm handler
+ logging system
Vanik
* started to study XPS motion control, in progress
Hovanes II
* tried to implement scalers for BCAL, something wrong with
discriminators
* different thresholds can be set
* Vanik made gui's for scaler read-out
• Vanik prepared low voltage for BCAL SiPM's
Sascha
* working with pair spectrometer prototype
+ put pieces together scintillator, SiPM read-out
+ connection scheme discussed and Chris messed it up, one
channel lost
+ read-out organized around one SiPM
+ put the box in the beam and took data yesterday
+ pulses seen, data not analyzed yet
+ inserted two additional flashes in VXS crate already installed
in Hall.
+ originally, problem running 5 boards, trigger not distributed
properly, tried another slot, replaced the flash, that one
working
+ will restore FCAL configuration for 5-pass beam next week
+ two flashes may go to EEL 126 or may be kept for a while
+ inclination reasonable
+ to connect BCAL, one flash should be ok. Elton: we need two
+ we may have photon beam sooner than next week
o they are going to electron beam this week, but they have
never run at 5 pass, so they may want to try that
* today will start setting up daq for BCAL test, will talk to Ben
after meeting to see if there are issues with discriminator
* working on proposal for rare eta decays
+ planning to submit proposal for next PAC
+ may be must a letter of intent
+ deadline end of April
+ wanted to circulate draft at end of this month
+ want to use realistic reconstruction from PrimEx
+ will have a draft for the collaboration by mid-April
Mark
* CLHEP has been built on our three supported platforms
* TOF request for bid has reached Hamamatsu, they have asked some
questions
* UMass RFB for electronics testing has been issued
* start counter meeting with Youri Sharabian and Chuck Hutton, lots
of questions answered
* iterations on TOF support design on-going, FSU design team likes
changes made thus far
Simon
* updated the ROOT-based viewer to be consistent with the BCAL
1-2-3-4 scheme
* working on errors, focusing on material maps
* working on straight line fitting
+ need facility to move the wires around in the simulation
Elliott
* adding critical features to inventory control program
* Yi ready to order PXI system, getting last channel counts
* scheme for UPS power to Hall not decided yet, will need it, EM
radiation concerns need to be addressed
* PLC programming
+ traditionally done with ladder logic
+ Josh learned structured text
+ what Mark Wissmann did with ladders could be done with 100
times less code
+ old stuff needs to be rewritten
* Graham collected requirements from the halls for a logbook
+ he approached the accelerator guys, they said they like them,
they may modify their log book to satisfy them
* magnet analysis for failures, FMEA
+ George has been on another project, he can get back on it
+ wants a UPS on a contactor on the board
