Private:Hall D Staff Meeting, May 20, 2013
Present: Eugene Chudakov (chair), Hovanes Egiyan, Nerses Gevorgyan,
Mark Ito, David Lawrence, Lubomir Pentchev, Yi Qiang, Sascha Somov,
Simon Taylor, Elliott Wolin, Beni Zihlmann
Eugene
* Jonathan delivered 1st dewar to cool magnet
* scare last week, voltage taps were shorted
+ turned out due to jumpers added in resistor box to accommodate
individual coil differences while testing in Test Lab
+ quench detector was affected
+ jumpers removed now, nominal impedances seen.
+ nothing is shorted inside the magnet
* end of this week or beginning of next, magnet should be full
* analysis being done with respect to SLAC measurements of short
samples
+ they put short samples in magnetic field, look for quench
+ ran at 1600 amps
+ 4.5 K at SLAC, 4.6 K here
+ looks like we were far from critical current
* have to test magnet up to 140 A
* find any turn-to-turn shorts
* high power test: parameters not decided, schedule not set
* two week cycle to warm refrigerator and clean
+ requires a couple of days down since magnet stays pretty cold
Beni
* Working on TAC report for the PAC, report due tomorrow, almost done
David
* working intensively on simulation for pion polarizability
+ added muon detector to private version of simulation
* translation tables: have spreadsheet to database to XML conversions
automated
Yi
* working on solenoid
* chasing shorts
+ resolving problem with jumpers on back of resister box
+ with all jumpers removed, no shorts
+ identified short to ground between coils 3a and 3bc, 17 ohms,
we saw this before
* working with Carlos preparing partial wave analysis test data set
* we may split BaBar DIRC bars with PANDA
Simon
* looking at what happens if we at 1200 A
+ full simulation, will look at effect on resolution and
kinematic fitting
* for DIRC, need to know angular resolution on face of DIRC, study in
progress
* added improvement in track finding in CDC
* studying overall efficiency for tracking
+ some tracks do not have good chi-squared
+ tricky issue, tuning track recovery code
+ working on alignment procedure
Elliott
* finished with build/release/version-control system, packages build
OK now
+ missing one scripts comes from offline
+ releases can be made
* Sergey Pozdnyakov will work on inventory system
* in case we go to a new quench detector, looking at designs,
candidates identified
Sascha
* working on simulation for eta decays
* trigger
+ two crate system in F117, with 2 CTPs, several flashes in each
crate
+ added SSP last week
+ playback being used to exercise system
+ checked synchronization
+ looking at scalers with Roman
+ GTP should come in tomorrow, from Scott K.
+ TS is with Dave A. now
+ 3rd crate in hand
* beamline
+ meeting with Vladimir P. and Bill Crahen on amps and dividers
for fixed array, checking physical fit
o will order PCBs soon
+ Bill in touch with Franz and Dan on support structure
* more than 60 pair spectrometer tiles done out of 290
+ ordered another fixture, Anatoly gluing pretty fast now
+ measuring tiles as they are done
* in touch with Richard [engineer?] on mounting frame for low and
high granularity counters
+ will have two separate stands
* PMTs for fixed array have arrived
* support structure for microscope
+ cooling design rehashed
* CTP scaler document sent to Fast Electronics Group
+ three energy thresholds
* Hovanes: want all modules reporting to EPICS
* flash adc scalers, being used for beam test[?]
* server situation[?]: Roman wrote prototype of shared memory server
* document for hit patterns[?]
Lubomir
* crew working on 2nd cell of spare package
+ trips from time to time
+ opened twice so far, fixed some problems, old wire frames
being used
+ last two problems due to bad soldering, wires sticking out
+ localized problem now
* cannot use SMC chiller using Flourinert, tried two water chillers,
one more powerful than the other
+ looks like SMC chiller, just to run it, produces significant
heat internally
+ some misunderstanding possible
+ Bill C. in contact with experts from company
+ will delay test with full electronics, unless we can use tap
water for SMC
* worked on simulation of Cherenkov light in lead glass
+ relevant for trigger for pion polarizability
+ tried varying parameters, may be difficult to simulate light
collection, there is uncertainty in surface roughness
+ apparent energy peak (shower equivalent) from muons traveling
along bar can vary from two to three times actual energy loss
+ used parameters for GAMS experiment, they tuned them with
measurement with muons
Mark
* TOF
+ sending splitters to FSU
+ Kathleen in touch with FSU on invoicing
+ readiness review report submitted
* Offline
+ helped with proposal preparation, computing requirements
+ forum for PWA analysis open, uses Drupal
+ new tagged release: 2013-04-22
+ started thinking about next data challenge
* Start Counter
+ sending discriminators to FIU
+ contract awarded for FIU start counter construction
o previously: submitted review of technical proposal
* UMass electronic testing: sent out message waiving the readiness
review for TDC testing
Hovanes
* procurements
+ PO issued for servers for database, etc.
o mounting adapters still missing
+ ordering desktop computers for cubicles, signed but not
ordered
+ 10 Gb transceivers for network being ordered
o switches were ordered, without transceivers,
+ ordering 4 scaler modules, Struck, for beam profiler and for
active collimator
+ VME CPU PR in system
o shortage right now, just have the ones we have already
loaned to DA group
+ no word or Chip Watson purchase of monitoring farm, EMUs,
infiniband
* EPICS
+ installing gateway to export variables to outside world
+ some issues with running EPICS and ROC on same VME controller
o old issue
o resolved, related to locking of VME bus, two processed
can now access bus
+ implementing scaler read-out for FADC
Nerses
* working on HV and LV systems: GUI, archiving
+ looking at Beni's GUIs
+ physical vs. logical channel naming info will come from a
database
