Present: Vladimir Berdnikov, Mark Dalton, Hovanes Egiyan, Mark Ito,
Vanik Kakoyan, David Lawrence, Lubomir Pentchev, Sergey Pozdniakov,
Dmitry Romanov, Elton Smith (chair), Sascha Somov, Simon Taylor, Ivan
Tolstukhin, Tim Whitlatch, Elliott Wolin, Glenn Young, Beni Zihlmann
Sascha
* multiple problems with the DAQ, Bryan Moffit and Dave Abbott
working them
+ problems with multi-casting
* managed to boot FCAL crate and read it out, took 2 days
* next: 6 crate configuration
* need to calibrate sub-detectors: pedestals, timing offsets, etc.
* working on a stand-alone system to calibrate sub-detectors
* modified FADC format, Sergey has new version of configuration file
* CODA 3 is running
* firmware for flash and TI boards have been upgraded
* code developed in /gluex/devel directory
+ there is code from Beni for stand-alone special purpose tests
* online group also has a version of CODA
* Elliott: online data challenge
+ try level 3 in December perhaps
+ in playback mode
+ there will be need to share system
+ plan to go from crate to tape library via level 3 farm
+ exercise farm manager
+ exercise multiple stage event building
+ test the new machines
* How is busy propagated in the system; is there a plan?
* Elliott: gluon ROC dev, identical to ROC environment
Tim
* FCAL power is up
* BCAL power: south side is done
* N2 system: installation starting
+ will take weeks to 1.5 months
* air system installation over next month or two
* cooling for BCAL, CDC being designed
* cable trays all installed, save one small section
* starting BCAL and FDC cooling hook-ups
* Lubomir, Beni: power needed to FDC racks
+ cannot mix FADCs and TDCs
David
* produced a new offline build system
* working on a new JANA release
* translation tables still have to go into CCDB
* Elliott: translation database table may be unified with other
online databases
* Request from Elliott a list of top goals for the next online data
challenge
Beni
* working on CDC and FDC testing, developing code to run on the ROCs
* getting the gas system running
+ providing information to Dave Butler for his programming
* all major components of gas system have been installed
+ many gas lines and cables for controls need to be connected
still
+ operational by January
Hovanes
* Nerses has left
* Need to install FDC voltage control, move to production directory
+ power not there for testing
+ there are some bugs in checked in version
+ test before connecting to detector
* working on EPICS software for microscope and FCAL
+ FCAL prototype exists, real stuff requires some modifications
to scale
+ microscope: don't have hardware from UConn, do have an API
+ We do the EPICS side, UConn will do the ethernet
communications
+ purchased an embedded computer, setting it up
* bought LV and HV boards for beam profile monitor
+ Fernando looking at providing cables
* Paul Letta is installing new computers, need to transition from old
borrowed nodes, target do this by end of this week
+ some mount points broken, some compiled code may not work
anymore
* SNMP protocol does not work on new machine, worked on gluon1,
communication very slow
Vladimir
* finished Garfield simulation for cluster counting
+ estimated separation between pi's and K's
+ presented at PID upgrade meeting
* will play w/ gas mixture to get better Lorentz factor to lessen
space charge effect
Ivan
* last week finished installation and check for one PS arm
* doing final tests: uniformity of signals, temperature stability
* Fernando checked signals with LED
* mounting structure should be here this week
* second arm not populated with SiPMs, Fernando wants to review
results from first arm
* one week for electronics, two weeks for splitter
Mark I.
* working on preparations for the software review next week, writing
talk, reviewing documents
Simon
* working on alignment with straight line tracks
+ have working system for CDC
+ will present at calibration meeting this week
* found problem that is causing events to hang, extrapolation of
trajectory never ends for some tracks at 90 degrees
+ bomb proofed to avoid hangs
+ next: understand cause of problem
Lubomir
* FDC being surveyed for third time
+ new reflectors installed to facilitate measurement z-position
of packages
+ want accuracy of several hundred microns
* want to check leaks before cabling
+ do not have the mesh yet
* Vladimir leaving in 2 weeks
* Using cosmic data to look at resolution
+ using internal hits: 350 microns
+ using external tracking, i. e., IU chambers, get better than
200 microns in good part of cell (including resolution of IU
chambers)
* hard to align planes and calibrations with cosmics, not enough
statistics
+ will need beam
+ prefer tracks parallel to beamline, may use pair spectrometer
converter as a target
Vanik
* improving speed of GUIs
+ found status updating slow
+ many invocations of a Python scrips
+ improved speed factor of 4 to 5
* GUIs ready to test with FCAL
Yi
* goniometer test data analyzed
+ satisfies spec
+ repeatability better than 1 millidegree
* PID upgrade, read-out options
+ Incom meeting, getting info from early adopters
+ they have had success with fabricating photocathode[?]
* Babar quartz
+ several groups competing: JLab, LHCB, Panda, ePhenix
Mark D.
* working with CODA group, testing the system components
Elliott
* great progress on the farm component
* last week, firmware for FADC 250: minor problem being fixed
* David and Carl, bug involving network switches
* telecom fibers turned over to Facilities
* network being provided as needed
* working on code management, directory structure, build system
* controls: Dave Butler making great progress
+ FCAL tested
+ met on gas system
* inventory database system, talking to detector groups about what
should be put in
Glenn
* project in magnet review for next two weeks
+ Hall D magnet may be included
* Lehman review: January
+ talk from Dana on cryo requested
+ run through[?] on Dec. 9 in Washington
* beam expected on Dec. 2
+ some issues with beam transport
* Director's magnet review Dec. 10, 11
* EVMS review, variances examined, before Thanksgiving
* still on CR, cash is tight
* Hall D needs to close books by Oct. 2014
