Eugene
* Hadron Conference was here last week
o not clear how to distinguish particles from threshold effects
o perhaps observe multiplets
o Stefan Powell: perhaps answer will emerge in analogy to atomic
spectral lines
* budget: it's the end of the FY and we spent everything
* running in 2015
o Rolf: no provision for running
o plan: electron beam to tagger dump
o fast feedback testing will require photons, so plan may have to
be amended
o schedule has shrunk from 9 weeks to 5 weeks of running
o 12 GeV is top priority, DOE mandated
o January run still planned, for physics
o in December, will go to Hall A dump as well
o helium treatment of cavities far behind schedule
o options for additional goals:
+ Hall D photon beam
+ high power to Hall A
* solenoid
o magnet still at 0 C
+ resistance is 13.6 Ohms, not 16 Ohms expected at room
temperature
o all coils at the same temp.
o water sensor shows no anomalies
o last weekend, George Biallas increase current on heater, saw a
10 degree rise
o work on mock-ups for changes going well, procedures tested,
practice welds done, scheme for attaching Teflon pipe to
stainless pipe worked out
o after opening:
+ use boroscope to find out where the two pipes go
+ when 2 inch helium pipe opened, process irreversible, gasket
cannot be re-used or replaced
David
* Working on event tagging
o mandated from software review
o mark events suitable for use in calibration
Sergey
* debugging hardware: start with F125s for FDC
o works on bench for Cody, problem in real crates for compression
+ multi-block read-out
* CODA bug was fixed
Simon
* working on sag of CDC straws
o Spring run: 2 connectors worth of channels where fit does not
work, fixing these up
* did survey of multi-photon final states
Beni
* two knocking sensors purchased
o hooked up to sound card on PC
o connected to ADC, good signal to noise
o will add 60 Hz canceling
Alexandre
* finishing analysis of beam data
o will write summary note, send to Todd Satogata
* ordered sensors for fast access to Hall D
* item ordered in Spring still not here
o need 2 neutron and 2 photon detectors to replace loan from RadCon
Mark
* started conversion of data challenge 3 to SWIF
* first draft of scripts to run simulation for Spring Commissioning II
* working with Sean on automatic builds of pull requests
* features added to build_scripts, documented in recent GlueX note
* hdgeant now runs on RHEL7. Changed compiler flags for GCC 4.8
Justin
* DIRC review 3 weeks from Wed.
* Technical Design Report
o give collaboration 1 week to feedback
o give to committee 1 week in advance
* work also on Budget and Management Plan
* some progress on Spring data fits
Lubomir
* working on diagnostic software
o monitor efficiencies
* rate estimate:
o at 10 nA, 10^-4 radiator, near aging limit in 3 weeks with an
organic gas component, which we do not have
o ratio of current on inner wires field-off vs. field-on is about 40
o concludes we do not want to run with HV on and field off
* tests done with mass flow controllers
o weird behavior
o doubling setting does not double flow
* might be something wrong with the gas
o using spare package with more charge collected, see factor of 2
between Garfield prediction and data
Mark
* working on low-level BCAL calibration
o attenuation lengths, gain factors
o possible problem with late time hits generated by firmware
* looking at simulation: photon reconstruction
Hovanes
* LED pulser for FCAL
o CAEN 1495 board
o high level software re-designed, now operational
o now pair spectrometer wants one
+ forked another application, hardware connected in Hall
* VME board for RF pre-scaling
o installed in tagger hall
o using spare for developing EPICS application
o sets pre-scale factor and duty factor
o basic GUIs in place, user GUI to come
Elton
* muon decays in the BCAL
o see correct lifetime in 2 microsecond window
o peak energy of electrons 1/2 of expectation using nominal
calibration
o looked at mode 8 data: problems there
o Will McG. looked at mode 7 data, sees same factor of 2
o shape of spectrum wrong, looks like a peak produced by a
low-energy threshold
* Tegan B. showed significant eta peak
o exclusive events, measured recoil proton and missing mass cuts,
6 GeV data
* last week nitrogen flow changed and humidity went up
o due to nitrogen diverted to solenoid
o will want to monitor this
* FCAL turned on, several failed bases
o some voltages drop during day
o firmware upgraded but going back to old firmware did not fix things
o problem seen after installation of EPICS controls, but removing
them did not fix things
* stand-alone FCAL DAQ not working
* read-out values seem wrong for short periods, e. g., nominal 1500
gives 1650 V
* taking problem bases out and shipping to IU for test and repair
o concern that bases going bad
Cryotarget
Alexandre asked if we want to run it in December. Depends a lot on how
hard it is for the target group to get it running.
