Eugene
* We had a successful run, the engineering phase is over, official
data-taking starts in the Fall.
* Some issues to resolve:
o which diamond radiator to use
o understand trigger efficiency
o TAC calibration, needs repeating
o decision on B field value
* Schedule
o Oct. 2016: 2 months
o Spring 2017: duration depends on four-laser operation and
separation, uncertainty due to Accelerator manpower concerns
o Fall 2017: Hall D down unless stable 4-hall operation achieved
o Spring 2018: discussion started, GlueX low-intensity period will
not have run out. Lower energy per pass. Opportunity for PrimEx
commissioning.
* DIRC ready in 2017, first box
o next one delayed until 2018, due to funding
* Nuclear Photoproduction Workshop
o held last Thu. and Fri.
o about 25 participants
o 2 or 3 tasks suitable for GlueX
o community exists to support the physics
* Open House
o big crowds in Hall D
o weather cooperated, not too good, not too bad
* Budget
o fund for projects exist, few k$ level
o priority: spares, improvements, developments
o contact Eugene with proposals
* solenoid magnet
o 2.5 months at 1200 A
o one week at 1350 A
+ ended with trip of power supply, blown fuse
+ fuse for extra relays will be upgraded from 0.5 A to 1.0 A
o at 4 K for some time now, ice may form
+ could be a local heat sink
+ Cryo Group recommends staying at 4 K
+ will do test in August at 1350 A, if quench then there is
time to warm up magnet
* Alexander Austregesilo, new post-doc, arriving today
David
* open house
o attendance surpassed usual by factor of 2
o route of buses changed, we were the first stop
o bottleneck in Hall coming up stairs to platform
o less time to prepare this time due to running
o send suggestions/ideas for improvement to David
* level 3
o gnarly problem being worked on
* some nodes reboot, will investigate
* will get another raid disk, eliminate back pressure
* CPP work, new post-doc to work with
Sergey
* close to limit of DAQ rate, reserves mostly used
* next frontier: network speed, only about 50% overhead at present
* writing to disk OK
* Eugene: DAQ reliability an area for future work
Alexandre
* looking at beamline data, devolution[?]
* last data set large, will only analyze samples
* will look at TAC runs
Simon
* measuring cross sections
o rho production, efficiency needs understanding
o omega production using pi0 gamma channel, statistics low, cross
section about right, only a factor of a few too low
* multi-photon survey
o seeing particles we expect to see
Hovanes
* looking at beamline issues
o collimator, goniometer, profiler, possible radiation damage
o data in archiver to mine, position stability from collimator vs.
profiler vs. BCMs
* controls for tagger microscope to be developed further
* Eugene: beam parameters, focusing?
o H: harp scans, Accelerator vs. Hall D, inconsistent, suspect Acc
problem
* Eugene: difference in transmission between Acc tunes?
o Alexandre: will take a look at it
* collimator scan, need to fit the shape, tricky to interpret
Dmitry
* Visit ends Thursday!
* RCDB
o now feature complete
o preserved config files lost in the data stream
o website API for next run
o Sergey: successful effort, may ideas for use being proposed
* CCDB
o working on feature requests, mainly from Sean Dobbs
o will release 1.07 before departure
* thinking about 3D event display with Mark
Tim
* lists have been created:
1. lesson learned
2. maintenance tasks
3. repair tasks
4. improvements
o Eugene: remove ferrous materials near solenoid
Mark I.
* Capture calibration procedures: TOF and Start Counter
* review low-level data monitoring
* No big offline software projects
* physics analysis ideas
Mark D.
* BCAL calibration work
o w/ Will McGinley on clustering
o w/ George Vasileidis on z-positions in BCAL and cluster timing
Beni
* wagers $1 that magnet will not quench again
* TOF calibrations caught up with Calibration Train output from Sean
* looking at energy calibration, done for double-ended counters,
single-ended still to do
* wants to push NIM articles for TOF, tracking chambers
* physics analysis idea: Bose-Einstein correlations
Lubomir
* working w/ Vlad Berdnikov on cathode gain calibration, method
converges, but application to data gives worse resolution
* best resolution seen so far with straight tracks, calibration for
tracking in magnetic field needs improvement
* working with Luke Robison on simulations of e+e- signals
* TRD
1. with prototype detector identified issues, making plan for next
steps
o drift field too low for xenon, allows recombination
2. need to understand background on chambers, front chamber especially
o when including information from PS find issue with ROCPS2 in
mode 8
o PS tiles show nice correspondence for some runs, not all
o Hall probe for PS jumped, 2.0 to 2.5 T
+ Eugene: look at photon endpoint in PS
+ Sergey: magnetic filed likely an EPICS problem
Paul
* GlueX Physics Workshop
o focus on analysis
o examples: omega spin density matrix, pi0 asymmetry
o making skims for EventStore
* preparing main reconstruction launch
* plan: efficiency study for trigger, detectors
* CLAS work
Jane
* beam pi0 asymmetry
o more runs analyzed
o correction for randoms
o run dependence seen
o dE/dx condition lowered
o polarization for 2 runs may be wrong
* systematics for pi0 and eta production
o studying acceptance, see some bad block in FCAL
Justin
* rho polarization
o looking for run dependence
* event quality: study fraction of good trigger, noise
o look at multiplicity of tracks, clusters
o Eugene: FCAL and start counter trigger should be examined for this
* DIRC
o Stephanie and John Frye work on support structure, optical box
