  Hall D Staff Meeting, November 28, 2016

Present: Alexander Austregesilo, Thomas Britton, Eugene Chudakov, Mark
Dalton, Alexandre Deur, Hovanes Egiyan, Sergey Furletov, Mark Ito, David
Lawrence, Paul Mattione, Lubomir Pentchev, Elton Smith, Simon Taylor,
Beni Zihlmann

    Eugene

  * we have a budget until Dec. 9, after that we are hoping for
extension until March under a CR
  * all-hand meeting with Mont on Friday
  * position searches: no new news
  * running this year: Rolf supportive, situation clearer in a week or so
o Hall A has plans at 5 passes although one experiment has been
        dropped
o Alexandre: still possible to get separator cavity fixed, two
days to install, leak found but not fixed at present

    David

  * working on stabilizing rate from raid disk
o next: try reformatting the disk, from zfs to ext4[?]
o also to try: configure as raid 0

    Sergey

  * working with DAQ group to modify writing to eliminate "provisional"
trailer words which are immediately overwritten, something to try
  * testing DAQ speed, getting 100 kHz for nearly empty events
o can write to disk at 1 GB/s

    Simon

  * re-doing multi photon survey with new REST data
  * working on event generator, π^0 and π^0 η
  * re-working cross section estimates for ω production

    Alex A.

  * worked on REST production, took 2 week, produced 50 TB of data
  * now working on Analysis Launch on these data
o new plugin from Paul M. and Ryan Mitchel with all exclusive
        final states
+ could remove some of the old plugins
o testing, looking at sizes of output trees
o hope to start this week
  * Eugene: what about the modulation of the ρs? Alex: sees modulation
    every 30 degrees
      o reproduced in Monte Carlo
o trying kinematic cuts that may enhance effect

    Beni

  * TOF efficiency study using Paul M.'s plugin
      o sees momentum dependence
o poor efficiency at the edges of the array
o central region efficiency good, over 90%
  * new tubes: would have liked new data to study behavior at lower gain
o will explore replacing tubes in situ

    Mark I.

  * new release of sim-recon out (2.9.0)
      o uses new hdds, root

    Lubomir

  * working with Mike Staib comparing residuals in the FDC
o differences seen on a hit by hit basis, exploring cause
  * J/ψ work: track one electron (or positron), see other in calorimeter
o want to use these to measure efficiency
o use the proton for the J/ψ (missing) mass

    Thomas

  * looking at φ cross section
o found count issue with DSelector: fixed it
      o see asymmetry in momentum distribution of K^+ , K^− , and
        proton, investigation
  * looking at further development of event viewer

    Mark D.

  * studying uncertainty and correlations in the BCAL
  * also looking at timing
o gets better with momentum, then gets worse
  * neutron final states: study timing and uncertainties
o pulls for photons wide (σ=1.7), for neutrons narrow (σ=0.6 to 0.7)

    Elton

  * reviewed SBIR proposal for DOE
o Mark I and Lubomir doing same
  * BCAL hardware got fixed while traveling

    Alexandre

  * continue with MCC interface duties
  * updating α_s theoretical work in light of recent developments in
    perturbative QCD
  * gave talk at CLAS Collaboration meeting
  * gave seminar at ODU
  * writing review of spin structure of the proton
  * writing proceedings contribution for SPIN16

    Paul

  * helping to prepare analysis launch
o number of plugins up by 50%
o found way to reduce memory usage of error matrices in kinematic
        fits, substantial effect achieved
  * CLAS analysis passed collaboration review
      o writing the paper

    Hovanes

  * working on 2D collimator motion control
  * found some small bugs in harp scan software
  * Eugene: puzzle with emittance? Hovanes: want to try collimator scan
    in 2D
      o use small insert
o measure polarization with shape of spectrum in pair spectrometer
