Private:Hall D Staff Meeting, October 12, 2009 Present: Fernando Barbosa, George Biallas, Tom Carstens, Bill Crahen, John Domingo, Chuck Hutton, Mark Ito, David Lawrence, Slava Razmyslovich, Sascha Somov, Elton Smith (chair), Simon Taylor, Tim Whitlatch, Glenn Young, Beni Zihlmann Elton * Senior staff meeting report + budget: people are optimistic for FY2010, budget may pass Congress this month, mark-ups thus far look good for us, looks as if full physics program can be run + appraisal cycle has started, self-appraisals were supposed to have been activated, a schedule has been passed around * call for 12 Gev Proposal has been issued, next PAC in January, PrimEx will submit a proposal * holiday party has been announced; those working for Hall D should be invited * review coming up: magnet review, internal, November Mark * new mechanism in place with SciComp to increase Hall D batch farm priority for a short time (one week) * new directory on the M drive: halld-electronics George Coil 1 - The downstream helium vessel end plate is welded. A few of the welds need a re-weld. Leak testing will start when the seal welds are done. Coil 3 - I am continuing the statement of work . We seigned the tubing installation drawings. Coil 2 - No progress, still haven't received the photos of the inside of coil #2 from SLAC We will start refurbishing the yoke rings, extracting some broken bolts and studs and having the welding on the Yoke Feet examined by our ES&H Examiner. Test - * The reviewer of the Stand for the platform agreed to approve the design after one more calculation and the addition of the grade of welding rod on the drawings. We are finishing adjustments to the position of the cleats for the cryo can and precise height (legs) of the platform. * Mounting plate for upstream jack stands was signed. * U-tubes are now solved with Tom Carstens laying his hand on two more short u-tubs. * We started working the overall assembly drawing for the test with the details of the jack stand and rail mounting being detailed. Remaining tasks are the relief system, t * We have yet to start the connection zone in the Chimney bellows and the gap definers and tie bolts. * Josh Ballard continued the pressure relief calculations and electrical lead cable junction to the Cryo Can vapor cooled leads with designer James Lagner. Controls schematic drawings were reviewed for what the changes need to be. The changes to the Autocad drawings of the Controls schematic by Slava Razmyslovich will start tomorrow. Manpower and costs for possibly increasing scope of repairs to minimize risk in an effort to respond to the review comments was estimated. The jack stands at IUCF need to be shipped to join the batch. An additional batch of 2 (we got the existing quantities wrong) is being made by a local manufacturer. The filler segments that make the filler rings arrived and were accepted. Simon * working on r, 4p, efficiency for single particle * looking at TOF code, bug in simulation, truth possibly in with hits in HDDM element Beni * working on FDC test stand + problem found with double hits in small prototype, mechanical gap found + 400 micron y-direction resolution (from both cathodes, dimension along wire) obtained after excluding bad region * CDC PR: Sharon Williams has all info to make solicitation * Elton asks, Tim responds: endplate contract awarded, holes about to be drilled, done by end of Nov. * Yves will pick up CDC prototype next week * long discussion about which straws for the CDC should be selected, how radiation exposure was carried out Slava * grounding task for CDC: individual wires to connect plate to HV boards, plastic disk modified + layout checked by fernando * sealing of wires on plastic disk, gas an issue * grounding of chamber to clean ground an issue Sascha * writing report on optimization of tagger dipole magnet, will make pole narrower by 6 cm, reduce iron by 15%, better than 10^-3 resolution * looked at position of phototubes for fixed array, magnetic field considerations * finishing technical documentation, also issue of non-parallel poles, answer questions from tagger magnet review * MOU's with Liping Gan and Ashot Gasparian waiting for feedback from Alison, may need to go ahead with next draft without her comments Chuck * working on solenoid drawings for George and Floyd * working on FDC assembly drawings, Bill has marked up version * waiting on Slava for controls drawing * plan to start on BCAL readout soon Elton * first ----'s from ----------- have arrived * there was a meeting last Wed. with Santa Maria. Updating geometry to have better angle of tubes with respect to B-field * received note from -----, they have found the problem and want to talk about it Fernando * 5 --------------- are pieces of art, will get them working by end of week then pass on to Carl Zorn * FDC activity: HV looks good, low current draw on all three wire frames * Beni: plan for Mark Stevens to solder flex foils on one plane, QA on frame 1 wires, put them together, then spacer ring, O-rings on both sides, put on another cathode, run with chamber gas * need to short all non-readout strips together temporarily so they can be grounded for test * preamps are good * will order 40 more ASIC's with missing wire-bond not missing * 3000 ASIC's will be ordered in total * Capacitances: + strips: 80 pF + wires: 30 pF + straws: 30 pF Tim * hiring activity, among them deputy engineer * BCAL construction: going out to Regina next month * civil construction: + put in grounding grid, 3 in layer of concrete (mud slab) + 2.5 inches too high, hole not deep enough + 7 million gallons of water pumped out of site so far + FCAL rails support in wrong place + design changes were transmitted properly to architect; not reflected in construction drawings Tom * we need tools * keys to trailer picked up * moved clean room, measured it, it's clean * racks from Computer Center to be moved to storage today * need work on "fixturing" to put it into floor * schedule: have not started drafting one yet Bill * Looking at Howard Fenker's winder: looks nice, need a fixture to wind 1/2 plane at a time * working on documentation of assembly for FDC * have read Mark S.'s procedure for soldering: needs to be sped up, looking at soldering all traces at once * working on coil support scheme John * getting us money, denominated in Chilean pesos David * high school student working on ROOTspy; for histogramming over the network * Micah working on thesis, milestone list generated, looking at systematic shift in position of cathode surfaces to see effect on resolution * finished note on coil shift and tracking; full solenoid map probably not necessary, resolutions driven by other things + Elton: where should we do spot measurements? * looking at r-p events * plan to work on paper for CHEP proceedings Retrieved from "http://www.jlab.org/Hall-D/software/wiki/index.php/Private:Hall_D_Staff_Meeting%2C_October_12%2C_2009"
