Private:Hall D Staff Meeting, April 26, 2010 Present: Eugene Chudakov (chair), Mark Ito, David Lawrence, Lubomir Pentchev, Yi Qiang, Elton Smith, Sascha Somov, Simon Taylor, Tim Whitlatch, Elliott Wolin, Glenn Young, Beni Zihlmann Beni * CDC start of construction is May 15 * CDC change request underway, including EVMS, Glenn is looking at it * Cosmic ray data has been taken on 3 layer stack of FDC prototype, with wires only * Gas system: purchase orders in, 3 so far, from CDC account + FDC account will be used next * Elliott: when will control system be needed? Beni: not yet. Yi * SiPM test done in Hall A * In the Hall for two days * Current increased dramatically * Devices still hot * Planning annealing test, found room in ARC to do it * HMI programming: fixed some bugs, data can now be logged Sascha * Trigger test stand work: set-up is one flash, one TI using an external pulse generator * Ran flash in playback mode, data pre-written to flash memory * Can put in any pulse shape desired * Will be important for commisionning * CTP cannot be included in test, software does not exist yet * Tagger: + sent position of focal plane to Bill Crahen + checked position with map from Yang + will do same for Bill's Ansys map * Looking at pair spectrometer detectors, exploring alternative detectors. + sent email to Hera-B folks on silicon detector (SVD) * Must respond to Franz about MOU * Richard is going to purchase crystal, Sascha has put in the PR. Mark * Project Management review + Understanding various versions + Change request may have to be revised * Lehman review backup slides + software progress + Elton's omega photoproduction * Documentation + How to set-up environment * Build makefiles + build JANA from trunk * Understanding on BCAL reconstruction + Regina will look at staffing responsibility in future + Matt has new student at IU to work on cluster finding in general * Eugene: we will invite Dmitri Romanov for 1/2 year, starting in August Simon * Kalman tracking has been speeded up by 30%. ALT1 not so much. * Looking at other ways to make things faster Elton * RFP for SiPM's went out Friday, has a cancellation clause, so collaborating institution can pick up 80%. DOE briefed on the situation. Will be phase funded. + Responses expected May 24 * First four modules of BCAL arrived at JLab today * Working on parametric Monte Carlo to study radiation hard insert in FCAL + easiest: rad hard glass + other options: shaslik, lead tungstate + looking at eta production at forward angles, needs to be written up o 10% both photons hit insert o 70% one in insert, one in FCAL o gain is usually on one of the photons Eugene * Nilanga Liyanage from UVA is interested in joining GlueX + Will send a student + Initial involvement: FDC construction Lubomir * Measurements on FDC prototype done with 3 layers, two top chambers placed with parallel wires, tracks should be reconstructible * Cathodes have large oscillations at output of pre-amps + Looked at it during power outage, oscillations still there, even in the dark + Previous bench tests did not show it. Test on first layer was OK + Oscillation is 200 mV, even with one card, the longer the strip the bigger the oscillation * Chamber moved back to the tent Elliott * Online meeting on Wed., rootspy on the agenda * Student coming next week to work on event display, software is ready for him, improvements to Java EVIO done, he will have office and computer * Tomorrow: networking strategy meeting with Lubomir and IT + need to buy a printer for off-site location * CLAS12 software meeting next month, David and Elliott talking * Coil test: new valve, new control stuff needed, pointIO can be used, putting in order * Wiring is going great, Casey is helping now * Need a hole in wall in F117 * Need a printer in the test lab * Need UPS batteries * PLC programmer working hard, but is gone for next several days * Need to contact safety people to arrange meeting * Lots of progress in Test Lab * Working on EPICS to PLC connection * Web program coming along * Safety stuff will have to be done * We ordered a nim crate to replace the one that died Tim * FCAL drawings: IU made all drawings for PMT's to Pb-glass assemblies * 2 new techs start Mon. * Interviewing this week for [?] * Work coordinator, only one application so far * Solenoid: rails grouted this morning * Work on coil 1 and coil 2 slated for next week * Solenoid review May 13 perhaps * FDC space set for Blue Crab, working with facilities on clean room * CDC components have been shipped to Pittsburgh, CMU looking at them * Wed.: sit down with Procurement, sources sought for tagger and coil * TEDF building: looks like final agreement on cubes upstairs and space downstairs, occupancy Dec. 2012. * Talk for Lehman review in preparation David * Full event reconstruction topics: + Mysterious factor of 2 found + CDC ranging out in active volume causing problem in time reported from hit generator, fixed in hdgeant, similar to another bug found and fixed in bcal + phystree plug-in: matched values for 4 vectors added in same tree + speed optimization, used sampler program on mac, can look at stack trace without debugging symbols + 30% faster + track and photon cluster matching: BCAL clusters missed when track did not hit calorimeter * Submitted abstracts to CHEP * Open House: 8 posters printed + layout reviewed by all + all volunteers need to attend orientation Retrieved from "http://www.jlab.org/Hall-D/software/wiki/index.php/Private:Hall_D_Staff_Meeting%2C_April_26%2C_2010"
