Eugene brought us up to speed on two reviews that were
conducted last week. To run during Spring 2018, experiments
need to apply for beam time by August 1.

Readiness Review

Collaboration applied for grant to build Compton
Calorimeter, $2k. Grant denied.

Backup plan: put HyCal from Hall B behind FCAL
platform.

Need 400 channels, up from 100 for the Compton
Calorimeter.

Want hydrogen and helium 4 targets

requested target length for helium known to 0.5%,
need superfluid, requires one FTE to develop.

Experiment told to come back in a year, aim for running
in Fall 2018.

Next time need to be better prepared.

Level 3

Not a formal review, local panel

Level 3 needed to go up in rate factor of 5

event size grows with intensity

factor of three bigger

too high for crate read-out, especially FDC

tagger read-out windows can be reduced

need a factor of 2

will try to get it from level 1 trigger

crates read-out can be improved some by going to 10
Mb Ethernet from 1 Mb, will hit bus limitation

need to study trigger efficiency

what is effect of halving the rate on the current
data?

post read-out processing

size of L3 depends on effect of higher rate on
processing time

hard to extrapolate current data to higher rate

could write all events to disk; process
near-online. get to use any beam downtime

by Aug. 1: would like to look at a lower rate
trigger scheme with reasonable efficiency
