[Halld-offline] generator output format

Genr8 outputs in two text-based formats. The gamp format is the one I typically use. An event in gamp format has a line with a single number indicating the number of particles in the event. Subsequent lines have the geant pid, charge, and four momentum for a track. 

The other format is similar but I'm not as familiar with it.

Naive question:

What is the format of the output file produced by our event generators, 
suitable for feeding into hdgeant, e. g., output by genr8?

It's hddm or xml? Or either?
