FWIW, I wrote a makefile that builds cernlib according to the
prescription from aforementioned Vogt at DESY. Using this cernlib on the
64-bit ifarm machine (ifarml6) I get a hdgeant that seems to work. The
makefile is in the repository:

https://halldsvn.jlab.org/repos/trunk/scripts/build_scripts/Makefile_cernlib_Vogt

To invoke it:
   make -f Makefile_cernlib_Vogt
of course.

I don't know one way or another about the large paw/ntuple problem that
Eugene mentions.

BTW, the Vogt's webpage is:

   http://www-zeuthen.desy.de/linear_collider/cernlib/new/cernlib_2005.html
