I looked at my repository on the IU machine I have been using,
and I had actually installed my repository before Simon's fix.
I updated my repository and ran over 3008 jobs, and ended with
3008 REST files, of which 2947 (98.0%) had 18 MB. There were
61 runs with smaller filesizes, but at the very least REST
did not stop.

My conclusion for now is that Simon's fix did resolve the problem
of REST not finishing (hurray!) but I am currently having some
trouble accessing files on the system which makes a detailed
diagnosis difficult for the small size files
(my terminal connection dies when I try to list some files).
I will report back when the system (hopefully) settles down.

For the particle genealogy things that Mark checked in,
I will test it out and report back in the coming weeks.
