[Halld-offline] Fwd: ANNOUNCING THE 2013 OPEN SCIENCE GRID USER SCHOOL

Dear Colleagues,

Here are my thoughts about the OSG Summer School. I attended it in 2011
and thought it a very well organized, pedagogical well developed
program. Certainly for someone with little to no experience in parallel
computing on a cluster it gives nice, ground-up education with hands-on
experience all the way up to grid production.

It may be less useful for someone already running on clusters and
cautiously submitting to grids who is just looking for some tips to
streamline the experience. Also, what shouldn't be expected from that
program (at least based on my 2011 experience) is any discussion about
administering OSG's software stack for participating in this grid.

The followup XSEDE (formerly TeraGrid) conference that they sponsor for
the summer school participants may be good for those curious about
what's out there for High Performance Computing and interested in
knowing about the major dedicated centers in the U.S., new technologies
and applications for tightly-coupled parallel computing.

I hope this helps,
-Igor
