Mark,

Hear-say by Review Panel members is not very useful to us, is it?  Is that
really any more than someone repeating what they heard?  What would be
genuinely helpful would be to be told what is better and replaces SRM, that
is ready to go on the grid, and we do not have to go out and develop
ourselves.  I am on the dcache listserve, and this mailing list is lit up
24/7 with messages from tier-2 and tier-3 centers all over the globe who
are actively running heavy workloads through dcache, with SRM being the
gateway for most of the traffic.

I have heard people grouse about all sorts of tools (like Geant4 and root)
that everyone knows are the best choices around for what they do, but can
be frustrating nonetheless.  I know SRM is not data-transport Nirvana, but
we don't have the resources in GlueX to go out and develop the next thing
that is a super-SRM.  Wasting our time trying to force Globus Online into
this role is going to be a rat-hole.  I have seen SRM do what we need it to
do, so I guess I am looking for a good reason to devote time to
implementing something else -- besides that so-and-so said we might find or
invent something better.
