Sean,

Locally, /work will be ZFS (like all of our systems).  The mount will be 
NFS.

Yes, the current usage of Lustre for /work is going away -- we have been 
completely unable to manage the space since Lustre quotas span /work, 
/volatile and /cache.  That is why the halls have so significantly 
overused their disk space.

It would be helpful to have a bottom up estimate of what you really need 
(not desire) based upon anticipated FY2018 running.  I suspect that the 
lab is currently under provisioned over all, leading to this squeeze.

We could revisit the pin quotas, but in any case the sum of pins has to 
be well under the actual fair share division of the disk space (80% 
full).  We can't pin what we don't have.  ("Quotas" are what you can 
burst to when others aren't putting pressure on the system.)

We are behind in rolling out both compute and disk, driven by budget 
constraints.  Better data might help us argue for a little bit more.
