[Halld-offline] Geant3/Geant4 comparison MC

Justin, and others, noticed the particle gun sets at 70 degrees had mainly empty plots. This was tracked down to monitoring hists requiring physics events only. Unsurprisingly, lone low momentum single particles fired up at the BCAL don't trigger often. This requirement has been removed and particle guns redone. The pdfs for 1GeV at 70 degrees can be found for all three particle types can be found https://halldweb.jlab.org/gluex_sim/G3G4_Comparisons/ver01/

Note: The other sets have the trigger response folded in. Thus the 70 degree sets can only be compared internally and caution should be taken comparing across other sets (e.g comparing protons at 70 degrees to protons at 15 degrees).

Happy hunting,
Thomas

Simon and I were looking at these and noticed a dearth of fdc hits and “good track candidates” . The number of hits per track is shockingly different

Hi Thomas,

Thanks for putting these together. First a technical point: there seems to be an issue with the p=1 GeV and theta=70 degrees single track samples, since the histograms are almost all empty.

Now onto the other single track MC samples: The forward tracking momentum resolution is pretty poor from G4 (see pages 2 and 3 for both WireBased and TimeBased tracks in the single pi- at theta=4 and p=4 GeV https://halldweb.jlab.org/gluex_sim/G3G4_Comparisons/ver01/pim_4_4_Hist_Reconstruction.pdf ). This is likely related to the # of reconstructed hits on tracks (page 17 of the same PDF) where very few of the tracks have the maximum number of hits expected for this region in G4.

Interestingly the number of FDC wire and cathode hits, as well as pseudo points, for this sample are basically the same (see below where G3 is left and G4 is right). Meaning the FDC hit-level objects are there, but there’s a problem with tracking through the FDC. Any ideas from the experts on why this might be the case?

A similar conclusion can be drawn from the single-particle samples at 15 degrees.

Initial comparisons can be found https://halldweb.jlab.org/gluex_sim/G3G4_Comparisons/ver01/ and also at /volatile/halld/home/tbritton/REQUESTED_MC/

*_Reconstruction are all the graphs from the /Independent/Hist_Reconstruction/ directory in hd_root.root and *_Neutrals come from /Independent/Hist_Neutrals/

The prefixes should line up with the directories below.

I haven't looked at all of the plots yet so if something looks wildly off please let me know and I can try to regenerate things by Thursday.

contains two straggler jobs which are currently running....

NOTE: In All cases the smearing is actually smearing and the software is "the latest and greatest": version_2.37_jlab.xml

I will begin to process them using Sean's comparison scripts but they should exist for others to start to look at them before the Geant4 meeting on Friday.
