Dear Colleagues,
Please note this message from JLab Scientific Computing and plan
accordingly:
> Following the Jefferson Lab shutdown in January 2024, several
> service-affecting data center changes are scheduled. The work will be
> begin starting Tuesday Jan 2nd to avoid conflicts with with the beam
> schedule for physics.
>
> * The Tape Library will be out of service Tuesday Jan 2nd until
> Monday, Jan 8th. The library will be modified to add additional
> tape drive expansion room and a second robotic accessor. Tape
> storage tools, including jcache and LQCD srm tools, will not be
> available during that time. Farm jobs requiring files from tape
> will queue until the library reconfiguration is completed. Farm
> jobs running from disk will continue to be scheduled.
> * A single day power outage for compute clusters including the farm
> and LQCD is being coordinated with Facilities Management during
> this period. Additional information will follow once a date is fixed.
> * A Slurm upgrade to the farm is planned during this week. Although
> Slurm upgrades are typically transparent to user jobs, there is
> the possibility that the queue of pending jobs will need to be
> cleared. Additional information about the timing will follow. The
> Slurm upgrade will add new GPU and CPU scheduling capabilities,
> patch security issues, and prepare the farm for the AlmaLinux 9
> upgrade.

Happy Holidays,
Alex
