Dear Colleagues,
JLab is undergoing another Computing Review and Hall D is one of the
subjects of the review. The meeting is scheduled for February 1-2, 2024.
As computing coordinator for Hall D, I am expected to present a 20+10
min overview talk to address the charges. In addition, we should provide
a short "Pre-Review Handout" one week in advance (Jan 26) with
additional context and details. The announcement asks for "<5 pages",
but I doubt this will be possible given the multitude of activities.
I started a wiki page to coordinate our contribution:
https://halldweb.jlab.org/wiki/index.php/Software_and_Computing_Review_7
This page has links to charge and announcement, which have more details
about the requirements. It also includes links to the previous computing
reviews and their recommendations.
I used the handout for the last review in 2021 as a basis for the new
draft, where I identified possible co-authors for the different sections:
* Online skim system (Sergey)
* Calibration (Sean)
* Reconstruction (Igal)
* Analysis (Alex)
* Simulation (Peter)
* AI/ML (Naomi)
* GPU (Alex)
Since the document is already much too long, the assignment for the
authors is mainly to update the existing info and to remove redundant or
outdated information.
Please have a look and feel free to send me your thoughts. I will
schedule a meeting with the authors towards the end of next week to
discuss a consistent message.
In case the document is missing any new developments and you would like
to contribute as an author, please come forward.
Have a great weekend,
Alex
