Dear Colleagues,

I am forwarding a message (see below) probing for interest in a
summer school for grad students on using the Open Science Grid for
research. The focus is on how to use it effectively. Igor attended
the summer 2011 workshop, which provided pretty much the entire
funding for the week-long session for him, and found it useful. He
also got a chance to present his research to peers, which is good
experience. Is there anyone who might be interested in this from
    GlueX?

(Sent on behalf of Sarah Cushing, who couldn't mail this list directly.)

Hello,

Are you or grad students you know interested in learning more about
the Open Science Grid for your research? Do you know of anyone
who would benefit from a week-long school which teaches you all
about applying OSG to your research?

If so, please see the below announcement and forward to different
mailing lists or individuals whom you believe would benefit from the
2012 OSG User School.

Thank you,
Sarah Cushing

------------------------------------------------------------------------

ANNOUNCING THE 2012 OPEN SCIENCE GRID USER SCHOOL!

If you could access thousands, maybe millions, of hours of computing,
how would it transform your research? What discoveries would you make?

We are looking for qualified students to attend the 2012 Open Science
Grid (OSG) User School, where they will learn how to use high-throughput
computing to harness vast amounts of computing power for research.

Using lectures, discussions, and lots of hands-on work with OSG experts
in high-throughput computing, students will learn how HTC systems work,
how to run and manage lots of jobs and huge datasets to implement a full
scientific computing workflow, and where to turn for help and more info.

Worried about costs? Successful applicants will get financial support
to attend the OSG School (June 25-28) at the beautiful University of
Wisconsin-Madison, and the XSEDE12 Conference in Chicago (July 16-20).

Ideal candidates are science, technology, engineering, and mathematics
(STEM) graduate students whose research demands large-scale computing.
Also, advanced undergraduates are encouraged to apply. Others may apply
too; funding is tight this year, but we consider all great candidates!

IMPORTANT DATES

    Application Period: March 5-30
    OSG User School: June 25-28
    XSEDE12 Conference: July 16-20
