<p>Friends,</p>
<p>New desktop machines (e.g., those in individuals' offices) at
JLab are now being built with RedHat Enterprise Linux 8 (RHEL8)
for people at the Lab that want a Linux box. The interactive node
jlabl5.jlab.org has been running RHEL8 since last January. In
keeping with these changes, Build Scripts has been updated to
support builds of GlueX software on RHEL8.</p>
<p>There is no action required if you are running at JLab. This
message is only to let you know that this new platform is out
there and supported.<br>
</p>
<p>JLab is running</p>
<p> Red Hat Enterprise Linux release 8.4 (Ootpa)</p>
<p>which comes with GCC 8.4.1. Actually, there was not much to do
get Build Scripts to handle RHEL8 since a lot of the recent work
on supporting GCC 8 smoothed the path even before a RHEL8 build
was tried.</p>
<p>The nightly build now includes a build on RHEL8. The last
production version set, <a moz-do-not-send="true" href="https://halldweb.jlab.org/halld_versions/version_4.44.0.xml">4.44.0</a>,
included RHEL8 as one of the platforms built at the Lab and RHEL8
will be built for future releases.</p>
