[Halld-online] Distributing DAQ group code to Hall D

Hi Graham,

I'm writing to confirm what we agreed upon earlier today concerning how
Hall D will access and deploy DAQ group code (CODA3, cMsg, ET, evio,
etc) in the Hall D online system. I plan to start doing this soon and
am setting up the Hall D online directories and repositories now.

We agreed the simplest solution is for Hall D to check out code from a
single DAQ group SVN server (currently running in read-only mode on
phecda). The DAQ group would not be required to make SVN tagged
releases, but could if desired. We would just need to verify with the
package author where to get the desired package version, which could be
the latest in SVN or a tagged release.

Note that, unlike offline groups, we will not use tar.gz files and the
like, nor will we do "copy releases" from /site. The former requires
more work from the DAQ group, and is a bit of a pain in a rapidly
changing development environment. The latter has no mechanism for
version tracking or release management.

If desired Hall D could create a tagged release in the Hall D SVN
repository pointing to the DAQ repository (using the "externals"
feature). Note that this would not affect anything in the DAQ
repository, it would be purely internal to Hall D.

Please correct the above if my understanding is not correct.

Thanks,

					Elliott
