[Halld-online] Lack of remote connection at Hall D Online meeting yesterday

To Those Who Attempted (and Failed) to Connect to the Hall D Online Meeting,
Many apologies to those who tried to remotely connect...we started the
meeting and no one remembered to turn on the conference equipment. Of
course it was ultimately my responsibility, so I doubly apologize. What
I should have done and will do now is add a prominent note to the top of
the agenda to remind us about remote participation (flashing neon lights?).
Anyway the meeting was short due to a Solenoid Test party at 3pm (thanks
to Eugene). The bulk of the meeting concerned a rather arcane Endian
problem in CODA that Dave A described in great detail. Probably only
Dave L and I (and perhaps our new guy Mark D) cared about it, as it is a
(very) internal detail. We did come to a mutually satisfactory
agreement on how Hall D will handle this. Mark will do some timing
studies on a production ROC to see whether our solution will work at
high rates.
Other than a number of brief status reports the main thing you would
have been interested in was the update on the upcoming online data
challenge. Dave's slides pretty much summarize everything we
discussed. The hardware is almost ready and should be by next week.
Most of the software is ready (Dave has some work to do in JANA
concerning translation tables and low-level DAQ objects, I have some
minor things left). Dave and I hope to begin exercising everything
early next week. Today I hope to test connection to the JLab silo.
Otherwise see the slides for many details of the plan.

Sincerely,
Elliott
