Dear collaborators,
I was asked to give a talk about the "Latest results from the GlueX
experiment" in the session titled "Photon-Hadron Physics with GlueX" at
the 7th Workshop of the APS Topical Group on Hadronic Physics (Feb 1-3).
Below is a proposed abstract. Please send me any comments or suggestions
by tomorrow (since the abstracts are due tomorrow -- sorry for the late
notice).
Thanks, Elton.
Abstract:
The GlueX experiment aims to study the gluonic degrees of freedom in QCD
by mapping the light meson spectrum with an emphasis on searching for
and studying light hybrid mesons. Hybrid mesons, and in particular
exotic hybrid mesons, provide the ideal laboratory for testing QCD in
the confinement regime since these mesons explicitly manifest the
gluonic degrees of freedom. GlueX uses the new 12-GeV electron beam at
Jefferson Lab to produce a 9-GeV beam of linearly polarized photons and
a solenoid-based detector to study the photoproduction of light mesons.
We will present results from our commissioning run, which already
represents an order-of-magnitude statistical increase over the very
limited existing world data.
