I found this online editor useful for editing README.md pages
https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__dillinger.io_&d=DwIBaQ&c=CJqEzB1piLOyyvZjb8YUQw&r=p3b5acpwYNkmZ3alLqoe1DpcHi6vq5JvK_7ohJe1WqI&m=6_dzlSpeRvtVyK-PPNBxUmhAoLyMYmfwOnhc_hJwuilA8bjM3J__1Vrb4Mgg-TVk&s=zmRMrkzB-fseFcl-s6IYPFcU8SYxMBlZJJy8mfA_WpY&e=
I am sure that there are others available, I just liked this one, without
an extensive search.

This is useful for making README.md pages which github displays with
formatting, links, etc.
If the README exists then github shows that by default when one visits the
directory that it is in.
eg
