This effort will include a search for hybrid mesons that are formed by exciting the gluonic field that couples the quarks. The experiment, housed in the Hall-D facility at Jefferson Lab, employs linearly polarized photons in the 8-9 GeV range and has commenced its physics data taking. Results from the data set collected in 2017 possess greater precision than previous measurements and/or are the first measurements in this energy regime. The key features of this compelling physics program will be presented with emphasis on the initial observation of several known mesonic resonances and results from the beam asymmetry for light pseudo-scalar and vector mesons.
