Hi All,

Combining pixels would require re-designing, testing and producing a new PCB board, which Fernando estimated to take the equivalent of about 1 FTE. His estimate of the additional cost to the project is ~$100K and the work could be done in 6-8 months.

Since the boards for the readout without combining pixels have already been designed and are basically ready for production, it's hard to justify this additional cost. This is especially true, since a lot of the cost for the readout is in the MaPMTs which isn't changed by combining pixels (or not). So while it may not be required for the physics, not combining pixels is still the preferred option from a cost perspective.

The question is simply how many FTE's of extra work at JLab would be required to implement this vs how much could you possibly save? Rough guess from the table is that 1.0 FTE x O(few months) is where you break even (i.e. save nothing).
