Hi,

here is the summary of the day 2:

https://gluexdirc.mit.edu/day-2

In short:

1. RTV615 with the standard mixing ratio gives a cured silicone pad, it is quite stiff.
2. we noticed, that it is a bad idea to put the molds filled with silicone into the vacuum to degas
3. cookie#1 does not stick to acrylic side of the mold

Next step:

mix RTV615 with Belle II mixing ratio 100:2.5 and test if the cookie stick to the acrylic, if it cures at 100C in the oven and if the cookie is softer.
Is the cookie is ok, test mechanical handling.
For degassing we plan to put the mixed components in the bell jar and not to put the mold filled with silicone.

Please feel free to comment.

Best regards,
Maria

Hi,

me and Jason started working on the cookies today.
Here I put some information about what we did, photos and plans:

https://gluexdirc.mit.edu/day-1#

In short:

today we prepared the working place for producing cookies and tried to mix the silicone (RTV615 - as first attempt, as this is not the target material, but has similar properties) using standard ratio 10:1 and degas it using vacuum jar. Silicone mixture gets really foamy after careful mixing. Degassing apparently takes several hours, so we let the silicone liquid stand in the molds and in a glass until tomorrow.
Tomorrow we hope to get an idea about how good degassing worked and cure the cookies in the oven at 100C for an hour.
Then we plan to detach it from the mold and see if some release agents/foil is necessary to prevent silicone sticking to the mold.

Please feel free to comment and recommend tests.

Best regards,
Maria
