Hi Richard,

thank you a lot for your careful reading and useful comments. I implemented most of them and updated the document. To one of the comments I maybe better reply here:

To me it’s not quite clear how I can use the photon polarization in GlueX DIRC simulation in some reasonable way. I have not seen any material data sheets claiming any measurements with polarized light - so that I can not extract polarization-dependent material properties for the simulation. That’s why I was not paying enough attention to description of that phenomenon in my writeup.

p.18: here I’m trying to obtain reflectivity as a function of wavelength from the plot available for Borosilicate glass (Fig. 22). The wavelength dependent reflectivity is one of the Cherenkov properties of the material, which defines propagation of Cherenkov photons inside that material. I assume that the borosilicate sample (from Fig. 22) was measured in air and the light from monochromator was perpendicular incident. Using Fresnel formula for perpendicular incident I’m trying to estimate the correction I should make to the values from the plot to obtain transmittance, which does not include surface effects.
The Fresnel corrected transmittance I then use for the material property table in hdgeant4.
I agree that in Geant4 the photon polarization is treated for every photon, but here I wanted to provide Geant4 some material properties, which will then be used for tracking Cherenkov photons.

Best regards,
Maria

Hello Maria,

It is great to see so much information about the DIRC simulation and reconstruction together in one document, and documented so thoroughly. Please see my suggested corrections and comments at the attached link. Most of these are obvious, but I welcome discussion on any points where there are questions or perhaps you disagree.

Hi,

I’ve uploaded a DIRC writeup describing the detector, simulation and reconstructions:
