I just spoke with Sascha Somov. The situation with the new pre-amp is 
complicated. Bottom line: the new amp for the 16-cell array has not 
undergone tests yet though lots of other devices have. Progress has been 
slowed by trying to understand a severe dependence of the amplitude of 
output pulses on the rate of light pulses seen on some of the devices. 
So the new device is not quite ready to ship yet; the studies we wanted 
to have not been done.

The situation should become clearer sometime next week.
